Ironclad's Future After Sins?

Sins 2? New Series?

Hey Ironclad,

I was just wondering of your plans after Sins of a Solar Empire; after you have milked it all you can?  Maybe that's too far in the future to think about? Maybe you have another game in the drawing boards?  Maybe you'd like to hire me when I graduate college in 2012 with a degree in Digital Art? (hint hint)(cough cough)(wink wink)(nudge nudge)

With the success of Sins, you must develop at least Sins 2 (and then a new series?)! I don't know, just throwing ideas out.

Any non-Ironclad is welcome to reply as well obviously!

They've already said that they've started working on a new IP (also a strategy game), but that Sins probably isn't over after the expansions. So Sins 2 may not be their next game, but perhaps the one after :)

As for hiring, they likely will want to keep it very small. They've only hired two people since they started on Sins, went from 9 to 11 and I believe both were concept artists. You'd also need to be in Canada, they had a disclaimer last time I looked :P

Having just graduated and living in the Vancouver area myself, I'm job hunting.  There's one thing that immediately came to my attention on the IC website: there was no "careers" page.  It's a subtle message that they really aren't hiring.  I wouldn't be surprised if that may change by 2012, but presently they don't appear to be expanding at all.

Yeah, they had a news blurt or something the one time I saw them looking for a concept artist.

Lol, I graduate in 2012 myself also, but I am in a more core program where you actually get to know the gaming industry, where my program actually have the "game development" in it. Hey having just finished my first year myself.

Hey, you two should help me with my models for my mod! Just need to touch them up (ie. add some texturing, lower some polys and add weapon points).. :D

Also, the Fraser boys have already announced they are going into early retirement. They're buying a place in San Pancho, Mexico and sipping martinis. No more sins  :(

err, yeah. right. like the world needs more of those.

ok, better idea: sins: total war.

Well, it depends. Maybe Ironclad wants to keep their expansion options open ;)

Sins: Total War might be interesting, though. Have the turn-based layer in space, and then normal Sins-style tactical combat. That would be quite yummy!

heh, and I though about posting something on diversifying business by going into that kind of match-up business. what's next? erotic materiel? sins: the movie?

well, it's not like it hasn't been done before. sword of the stars operates this way iirc. and imperium galactica had a separate combat screen, though the overview was also real time.

it might even be an option for a possible sins 2, though of course one of the big things that makes sins special is that everything runs in parallel. if you split the 4x portion and the combat portion you effectively cut the possibility of reinforcements and more dynamic battle development. on the other hand it would allow for more depth as players would only have to concentrate on one aspect. I guess it has pros and cons like so many other things.

world of sincraft.

why not just Sincraft

Normal Sins with Starcraft battles on the planets instead of nuking their population into oblivion.

That's kinda already done with Sword of the Stars though!  That being said I think Sins' combat is great, I'd just like more strategy elements, maybe EU3 style.

Maybe, what program you using to design your models? Maya?

lol

Omg, he replied to my post :smitten: (jk, no homo)

But yeah I figured their team was small and I was just throwing that in there as sarcasm.  I have no clue who'd I want to work for when I get out of college....I'd rather not work for EA or move to California but if I must as a starting point, I'll take it. Yeah I don't live in Canada either....Does Pennslyvania count (P.o.S. State!)?

SOTS combat is.... not all that great. The strategic map is similar with the phase lanes though, that's true :)

One possible outcome is Ironclad becomes like NCsoft. 1 great game (Guild Wars) and then a massive wall of smaller games that either nobody cares about or suck really badly. However, I don't think that's likely due to the sheer awesomeness of Sins and the fact that Demigod was pretty well recieved (I saw it in a store!).

Don't confuse Ironclad with Stardock.  Ironclad developed Sins, whereas Stardock published it.  Demigod is something that Stardock is publishing and working on, and doesn't involve Ironclad.

Oh. I always get that mixed up. Still, it just reinforces my point. Not that all the minor stuff is crap.

I for one would like to see a SoaSE:Ground  Combat. Not an expansion to the space game, just a RTS ground/air battle system a la Supreme Commander. Could be a mixed rts/turn based like the Total War games too, which kick serious ass.

Mmm agreed and then have the two games merge as one, if people so chose. Long(er)-ass games though lol

Well... just my two cents, but if IC did something NEW, like they did here in Sins, mixing RTS and 4X then we might expect something along the lines of...

RPG/RTS?

It would be cool to have cutscenes of your crew rushing about the ship preparing for battle, or running as a bulkhead blows in!  :)

A sandbox, with battle cutscenes doesnt have to be a campaign, and could keep the game open ended. One of the things i have come to really like about Sins, is no matter how often i play, when i come back its a new game, new setup, new buildup...etc...

Keeps it interesting instead of reaching the end of the campaign and ending there.

Longer game life it seems to me.  :)

Just my opinion,

Or something more like Homeworld, where the battle is more limited and there's focus on the tactical aspect. They've already got all the ships worked out. Another cool thing would be something like Star Trek Bridge Commander (I think). Imagine driving a Kol!!
