Galactic Civ2 help

I believe an embassy only increases that planet's influence that is generated, not all of them. Only that planet's influence will become greater. Go to the galaxy main map and click on a planet to see its influence.

EDIT: The amount of influence depends on the planet's population, racial bonuses, and projects(such as embassies). Not sure about the sentry thing but that seems like the most likely case.

As a heavy user of Sentry (I build sensor pickets and station them around my planets for an early-warning system >.>), I can tell you exactly what it does.

The ship stays idle until another ship comes into view, at which point the ship will be active again during your next turn--no more than that.

To be more specific, highlight the planet on the main map, then look in the box at the bottom-center of the screen. Influence is given as a number, then another number in parentheses, for example 56 (0.23)

The first is the influence generated by that planet. The second is the ratio of your influence on the planet compared to the influence of the empire with the next highest influence at that location. For reference, your border is drawn where this ratio is 1.

For sentry, it will do neither. All the command does is defer the ship's moves each turn, somewhat similar to putting it on autopilot, but without the ship moving. When another ship approaches, this status ends and the ship will show up like any other idle ship when you push the "next" button.

If you really mean that, you need to click the little Thumbs Up button in each of their posts, type something in the resulting pop-up, and then click Give Karma.

I only mentioned it because it looks like you had a fingercheck or the servers had a brainfart--both JagerJack and Legerdemain still have 0 karma as far as I can tell.

This is Off-Topic - PC Gaming GW...Ax may be posting from anywhere in stardockia and as such the karma given would only be visible from that site. I had 0 karma on DG until i recieved karma from a user on that site and then all my off topic karma showed up.

Demigod i suspect is where Ax is posting from. (just checked and yes both users have +1 from Ax on DG. Both JagerJack and Legerdemain have +6 and +4 respectively.)

There is influence bonuses you can research which provide a global bonus to influence of all planets. There is also a GA (galactic achivement) called the "Restraunt of Enternity" (I think I spelled it right) which also provides a global influence bonus.

There isn't enough of a variety in term of commands for this game (atleast for wait commands). I for one would like to have a fortify command which doesn't have a trigger that cancels the idleness of ships. I would use the command to have fleets protecing my resource starbases and other stuff. Commands like guard or sentry make it possible for ships and fleets to stop being idle and therefore mean it is possible to accidentally give them orders (like move away from the starbase they are protecting) which effectively negates my efforts to protect the starbase.

With luck, and in time, Bara will be able to look into this. Since i now am frequent on Demigod and Elemental (lurking there atm, but i am watching) i am seeing even more of a need for users to be able to identify where the post they are reading originated.

It is especially obvious with Demigod and it's new influx of users, that many do not have a clue about the tangled web that is Stardockia.

I played my first game yesterday night and I'm absolutely loving the game. Since most RTSs are combat-heavy (or combat only), I decided to try winning through influence, diplomacy and economy.

Started on a small map, beginner difficulty and 5 opponents. Things were a bit rough at first as I was getting used to the game but then I started climbing up the overall power chart until I hit number 1. Used mining bases to good effect as well as an influence star base to help me push influence to other planets close to my capital.

Unfortunately, it seems that the map was a bit cramped for 5 opponents and quickly ran out of room to expand culturally. I switched gears and ramped up research spending to fast tech to the troop transports and took over a nearby minor race's planet. That went by pretty well and I had ample cash to perform the whole information warfare bit. I decided to go for another minor race planet that was also nearby and conquered it 3 turns later (had to wait 1 additional turn because there was a law put in place were you had to give a 1 turn's notice when switching over to war against a race).

This is were things start to go downhill. Immediately after conquering this second planet, 4 out of the 5 other races banded together to declare war on me. I was shocked. I wasn't a threat to them and I was only conquering minor races. Heck, they loved me so much that they were periodically sending me money just because I was such a swell guy. What gives? I had to stop playing on the very same turn they declared war on me since I had to get up early to go to work. I have a heck of a cliff-hanger to return to tonight. 2 out of the 4 that turned against me are right at my door step too. I have the economic advantage and it seems that even with only 8 or so small fighters, I have the highest military rating too. I guess it also helps that I monopolized as many military and economy mining bases as I could early on. Can't wait to keep playing.

Even though they're 'just minors,' taking one is also destroying an entire civilization. Doing that two times fairly quickly, which it sounds like you did, tends to make the AIs think you might warming up for total conquest, which means you need to be put in your place quickly. If by chance you are leaning towards or formally evil and the majority of the others are not, that could also contribute to a dogpile aimed at you.

It sounds like your grip on the game is quickly getting firmer, and since you're playing at Beginner, you should be able to come back from this mess, maybe even without losing any of your worlds. The AIs are a bit decision-impaired at that setting, and they're not all that swell at the invasion part of the game even when they're fully off the leash.

Try to keep those resource mines safe, especially the military one.

Ah, I see. I thought invading the minor races was inconsequential. Guess I was wrong. Yeah, I invaded a minor race planet and 3 turns later I invaded another one. Guess I had to take it slower .

I control most of the military mines in the map at the moment. While I had no intention of going military heavy, I figure I'd take them over to deny other races access to them. Don't want any of them blasting ME to pieces
