Is this game EVER going to work reliably?

Is this game EVER going to work reliably?

Hard to believe

Title asks the key question. I don't know about most of you, but my multiplayer experience has deteriorated steadily since launch. I've tried all the "workarounds" and have a high-end rig with a great connect (both UL and DL), a compatible router with working port forwarding, and yet I cannot remember the last time I played a match that didn't have horrible issues. Ordinarily I would just stfu and patiently wait for the hard-working dev team to do their job, but in the midst of all this I'm reading posts from management giving their team the weekend off and kudos to their devs for extensive new AI code ... unbelievable.

So I'm wondering. Is there any reason to expect that things are going to improve eventually, or is this it? Are we there yet?

I hope they do something soon. I hate seein' one lagger drop from the game and cause EVERYONE to lose their connection. P2P really sucks!! I want something server based!

just go die in a fire already, internetz wise at least...

The whole forum is full of fanboys

If I were the type of person to take offense to things I read on the internet, I think I would take offense to that. I don't troll the boards all day because I want to stick my tongue in Brad's ear or anything. I am on the boards all the time because I like message boards.

Yeah, I knew the post would draw some heat, I'll live. B)

As for the software management angle, I've never had to make my team work overtime to fix a problem like this. What usually happens is that team itself feels sufficiently committed to fixing the problem that they themselves volunteer to do what's necessary to get it working. Someone from Stardock posted in this thread that they've been working 14 hour days and that just signals a red flag to me. I would never have programmers working 14 hour days, you can't be productive like that and it kills morale. The last time my team had an emergency situation like this they set up a rotating schedule. We divided the group into three teams that would work around the clock in 8 hours shifts so that no team worked more than 8 hours a day but we had people on the project around the clock. It was actually fun and it felt great to see that kind of spontaneous dedication emerge without anyone having to crack a whip. I didn't have to overwork anyone and a significant problem got fixed in just under a week. Getting the job done and making a customer happy was reward enough for those guys, but we gave them a helluva lot more than that *after* the customers were taken care of.

Yea, I played in a 3x3 the night I posted. You want to know how that game went lol?  We came out of the lobby after about 2-3 minutes before we got the "A Player has left the game" message because of the guy who got squeezed out and then we spent the rest of the game alternating between halfway decent play and fits of connect dialog entertainment. The game sucked rubber donkey lungs. You really think the problems were on my end and there's nothing wrong with the game? Right. (rolls eyes and shakes head).

I've started playing Sacred II on the XBox and that's a deep and satisfying game, but every night I check in here to see if there's news about a fix and I try a game or two before I go to bed. I think it's an incredibly cool game concept and it's great to be able to play a quick 25-minute match that is strategic and requires teamwork. I hope to hell they get this thing fixed. But I haven't heard much that's encouraging. When programmers are being worked 14 hours a day and then come on to the forums to tell a customer "I'm not going to kill myself for you", I have a hard time imagining a scenario with a happy ending.

But the game's good enough that I'll hold out hope and keep checking. Geez, it's getting hard...

I'm sure they will treat you fairly. I hate to point it out... but a threat of legal action over a $40 video game is a tad bit unrealistic/immature.

I disagree ...  Something like this could actually turn into a class action lawsuit very quickly...

Believe me I'm starting law school this fall
All it takes is a bright attorney to figure out what to charge them with.  Soon other people and other attorneys hear about it and how much another person ->stands<-(I used that word for a reason)to make and hop on the band wagon. Next thing you know its a world of legal trouble

It happened to spore over the DRM and comcast over traffic shaping
Whats the next logical step

I also wager that people are starting games before everyone is connected across the board.

adding onto what I said before ...

Lawyers make carriers off winning bullshit frivalous lawsuits like this

Mcdonalds got sued for hot coffee
Why not demigod for a shitty game? (based on opinion of course)

Sure well neither will DRM or Traffic shaping...  But they cause an awful lot of frustration
and imo Spores DRM was much more tolerable then the impotentencies of this game
I added a comment to one post comparing the selling of video games to the selling of cars...
I'll spare you reading it and tell you the conclusion was that you cant sell a half finished car
What makes a video game different

Which I'm sure you will try to rebuke with a statement about how cars are somehow different and video games are complicated...

Which I would reply (in case that was what you were thinking)  Cars are much more complicated then video games,  I gaurentee it.  And when a car has a major factory defact, you hear about it, and people definatly do something about it.

The video game world cant live behind this pretentious fortress forever, someday they will be held responsible for oversights like this game.
And more then just 50% coupons and "I'm sorry's"

what u said is the reason  most people think americans are stupid and ignorant sueing  sd for a game your a moron

if u dont like how they handled it ask  for a refund  and fuck off  but  dont waste time posting worthless  posts

ohh and your wrong cars are less complicated then  games  cars are simple combustion engines  with between 6 and 12  pistons  that  get forced down by little explosions in the engine

Not that I'll be the one to do it bcuz if I do finish law school it wont be for quite a few years but like I said, a lawsuit like this would make someones carrier.
And I'm sure as soon as someone comes up with a good precedence to go to court with it will be like dominoes.
Lawyer after lawyer will be lining up to take their shot at video game companies

I'm not justifying it anymore then I would justify the lawsuit where the women put a chopped off finger in her chili and sued wendy's

I'm just saying.  Its been a long time coming

That was so unbelievable ignorant I cant even respond

Really????  You think its that simple?
rofl seriously you drive 80 miles an hour these days and it feels like your sitting still and you think cars are just pistons with explosions

you drive during the rain wind snow daytime twighlight midnight and morning

and you think all a car is, is pistons....

You should take time to think about deleting that comment

lol stupid and ignorant at the same time

See I was under the impression that ignorance took some measure of intellegence, because being ignorant would imply that I have the capacity to understant the world around me and I either chose to ignore it or simply wasn't exposed to it.
Stupidities assertation is that I am unable to understand the world lacking the capacity to properly observe it...

So stupid and ignorant huh?

btw I normally wouldn't stoop so low as to correct someones grammer on a message board
but that was atrocious

and who is "people"?  You speak as if to say people from other countries think were stupid...   In which case I assure you, their are much more contemptable differences in our and other developed democratic countries legal systems then frivalous law suits.
Our whole system is a joke, personal damage lawsuits are actually one of the only things in our legal system that works.

The playing field has to be tipped toward the individual sueing the company because companies possess so much more money.  In most VALID lawsuits against large companies the person who suffered the damages is forced to settle for much less then they are entitled to(and by that I mean actually need).  Companies often use underhanded tactics to exhaust and demoralize the person sueing.

The women who we were talking about earlier who spilled the coffee in her lap was actually entitled to much more then she had gotten.  If you subscribe to lawyers digest you can see the pictures and read the real story.  The coffee had begun to melt her cup and spilled all over he lap, in some places she had 3rd degree burns.  Mcdonalds eventually wore her out and she settled out of court for much less then she could have made and then they spread the rediculous story you probobly heard to the public and used it to lobby congress for tort reform.

Yeah, the fact you are going to attend law school makes you any more credible to listen to than anyone else because it makes you a legal genious. Oh wait, you are GOING to attend... You haven't graduated top of your class, got highered by a big ass firm, and won a 100 cases just like this one, that would actually make you qualified or something, what was I thinking.

Meanwhile, I've watched all of Boston Legal a few trillion times, time for me to get some clients with my encyclopedic knowledge of the law! Who needs the Bar exam!

lawyers are all scum anyway wouldn't take their word for shit.

"contribute" to the judges relection and you win more cases its an amazing coincidence.

I'm sure there are at least 2 decent lawyers but a majoirity of them are greedy dicks that bend the law to line their pockets.  No morals just greed the exact opposite of what they should be.

Thanks to TheDakoe:

to create a shortcut go to your demigod game folder (you can right click on demigod in impulse and it can take you right to the .exe) and right click and go to 'create shortcut'. after you have created a shortcut you can move it wherever you want. Now right click on the shortcut and go to properties. you will see a spot called "Target" that lists the demigod.exe path location. at the end (after the quotes) do a space and type "/serverproxyonly" without the quotes. use this shortcut to run the game.

That being said, I am hearing a lot of people saying that they proxy servers are behaving poorly right now.

And of course it naturally depends on where you are physically in relation to the nearest server.
