Influence

Hello

This is my first time posting here and not even sure if this is the right place to post.  I had used the built in map maker to design a sector with 18 stars, 5-10 planets per star, and set phase lane to few and long.  I did this because I wanted it to be a little more in line with what we know as reality and also in line with various sci fi shows, where it still takes "weeks" to jump from one solar system to another.  Everything worked according to plan, it actually worked better than I expected as I found planning and logistics became very important as it is just so hard to send support fleets when things doesnt go well(by the time the support fleet gets there your main could be gone, either retreat of wiped out).  However there is a major problem with the influence factor(from those broadcast stations).  Take this for example:  I had a system with 9 worlds, I already controlled 7.  On the other side of the sun was a single phase lane that leads to 2 worlds, my fleet went and took out both worlds, killing everything, mines, structures, planet, and we were waiting for colonization....it took in real life 45 minutes before the first world became available to colonize.   Stating all during that time that the enemy influence was too strong.  I ended up builing another fleet of 12 carriers, 12 crusaders, 15 illumi, researched to be able to build 5 more cap ships and bulit them with full upgrade, 2 fleet supply upgrades, 10 iconian, 10 of those healing ships(forgot name), and made 30+k in credits, tens of thousands of metal, and thousands of crystal making only 2.3 per second, fought off 3 waves of enemies trying to retake the planets.......before the planet was ready....

I am not a modder, I would not know what to do, I just wanted a large multi solar system with few worlds per system and that it takes a long time to get from one place to another, I would think after killing off a planet and any other planet the enemy had and were broadcasting should cut off the message and we should be able to colonize, but it didnt.  Even after I had colonized, my new found worlds were still under attack by the left over messages and planet loyalty plungedto 8% before I had enough broadcasting units to counter it(and there were nothing left for me to research other then fleet supply and cap ship quanity).  I hope maybe this issue will get addressed.

Thanks

there is a function in game options that sets how fast culture (influence) spreads and retreats, if everything else is slow, you could set culture to fast to get the desired effect. there are also other factors, such as how many cap ships are in a GW. also, since you were playing Advent, i think the starbase also repels culture. and if all that fails, you could have fired a Deliverance Engine burst at the planet and saved alot of time.

However, i think yours is a unique situation, and as such, changing the way culture works now just for a very small niche market seems unlikely

try again with the suggestions above and see if that helps at all... otherwise maybe ask someone who mods if they would mind doing some quick modding for you

thank you, I will try that and post the result.

Thanks again

Well, I set the culture to fast, but it still is unplayable......

I found a system with the sun leading to 3 paths, 1 phase lane leads to an ice planet and a storm cloud, which I quickly took, 1 phase lane lead to a magnetic clould and another storm cloud, and the last lead to yet another magnetic cloud which goes right and left, to the left was an astroid belt, and another lane leading to a storm cloud, to the right was a volcanic planet, behind it a regular colonizable asteroid.  I had 2 fleets, 1 with 3 cap ships and other with 7 and they quickly took out the volcanic planet, at 2:54 am we wiped out everything on that world, the fleet with 3 cap ship stayed, while the other fleet with 7 cap ship moved beyond to the asteroid planetoid, which had only 1 broadcast station.  At 3:10 am my fleet arrived and at 3:16 eveything on that rock was cleaned out...I waited and waited for the voice pollution to clean, 3:55 I am still waiting, neither world was yet ready to coloinze.....

Too bad too, as I really enjoyed this set up with the long phase lanes, at one point I had 5 other empires sending fleets at me, but due to failed logistics, their ships trickled in and were decimated by my snot flinging star base/hanger/beam turrets.  If was a lot of fun to watch the base wiped out fleets 1 at a time because they couldnt get them all there at the same time.  I really didnt have a problem waiting 10 - 15 minutes per phase lane jump, but an hour parking my fleets at the gravity well waiting for the culture to be weak enough, and still not able to colonize was a bit much...

you could always attacked the next grav well while you wait

there are no next gravity well, just the volcanic and the asteroid planetoid left, which I already cleaned

okay, so by my understanding you tried parking cap ships in the GW in question right? what about the other suggestions i made? Starbase? Deliverance Engine?

im not certain, i dont play advent, but im pretty sure a DE shot would neutralise enemy culture on a world almost instantly, letting you colonise....

i just thought of something, you said you used the in-game map editor, not galaxy forge right? try using galaxy forge, it might just fix the problem, and you can set the phase lanes to exactly the distance you want

Ok I made some changes on the map maker, setting phase lane to orange, basically cutting distance.  I also restarted the game and tried it.  I am starting to get a feel that while culture trapped in a phase lane had a factor, the bigger issue was the small stars with few phase lanes.  I had also wanted to avoid using the D engine as that would mean the game was advent only, but I ended up trying it anyway.

Basically the 18 systems, each had about 2 to 3 lanes from the sun.  each lane leads to 2-5 places. I had entered a system with 3 lanes, basically forming a pie if you will.  I took 1/3 of the pie, the ai holds a lane that leads to a terran world, which then goes left and right leading to a desert on one side, and ice on the other.   Here is where things got fustrating.  I started jumping toward the terran world, and fired a burst of DE at the terran world, then my fleet cleansed the world, I fired another burst of DE at the terran world, then we held the system from a fleet trying to retake it, and I fired yet another burst of DE at the now long dead terran world.  The culture rate on the long dead planet was 16.7 and the pink color(ai color) influence indicator did not even move.  All this time I had 5 cap ships sitting in the GW.  I am calling it quits, looks like the model I had in mind will not work, well in a way it does work, it makes taking out an enemy empire almost impossible, and taking an enemy world a really big deal, that in itself is fairly "real", that and I get some really spectacular battles I recorded, as waves and waves fleets came at my front door

Oh on the starbase idea, I could not put that into practice as there were only 8 upgrades avail and I needed every bit of it. 3 armor, 2 weapons, 1 MS, 1 MD and 1 fighter.

I dl'd galaxy forge, but haven't had the time to learn it.  I know the tutorial is available, maybe now that I scraped the idea I can go learn it instead of play testing.

Thanks for all your suggestion
