Was there a Demigod multiplayer stress test during the beta?
I've read several posts from Frogboy, but perhaps I missed it... was there a large multiplayer stress test before Demigod went live?

Human stress test, no. Simulated yes, but they underestimated those numbers.
There was a beta - but only for people who pre-ordered, which meant numbers were much much lower then today.
Right. Stress test refers to basically hammering the servers to make sure, well, that what happened to Demigod doesn't happen
A lot of MMOs have stress tests where they just let everyone in for a few days before go-live to make sure their servers can handle the flood of people on launch day, because beta player sample numbers are always insufficient to stress test anything. So you either open it up to everyone, or you simulate.
Should have had an open beta.
everyone knows that now, but before launch it was hardly impossible to predict that a system that worked very well with SupCom will suddenly encounters many problems when you change it a little bit.
I was in the beta and saw the similar multiplayer issues we face with connecting to each other in release. I thought they weren't ready for release but I guess they thought it was good enough.
Mostly different issues. A lot of the first few days' problems were due to the misc servers getting hammered to bits and pieces (version checks, friends lists, etc). Even the NAT server ended up doing worse than they predicted, and many connection issues were due to that as well. And according to Frogboy's latest, there are still issues with server load. There are of course connection issues that don't have much to do with it, and that's what the proxy servers hope to fix.
Of course remember though, the stress testing was done with the pre-order numbers plus i think using SINS first week sales as a guide. IIRC.
They did not count on Gameswine releasing DG 3 days early, and of course the number of pirates hitting the server.
None of which helped the cause.
No kidding. If we had a time machine now we would go back and have done that.
hmm technically a open beta would have helped but it ight have delayed the release meaning maybe less buyers so it could have gone either way
but i think not having one wasn't a bad move or a good one just a bad luck move
Will you do it with your next multiplayer title?
Thanks for the insight everyone. No need to purchase a time machine. I appreciate all the work the devs have done on this. Looking forward to the day when we start talking more about new characters!
