Yeah, I Slugged Him

I was enjoying a few cold ones at the bar next door to my motel. I was having a pretty good time talking with my fellow drivers and some locals while wacthing first a baseball game and then some racing on the tv.

We were all having a good time and pretty much just cutting up, telling jokes and lies. Of course I was knitting too, as is my way. At one point this guy came in, a fellow driver, and sat down at the bar a couple stools down from me. He seemed ok at first.

After a bit, in the midst of our merry-making, he made a rather rude comment about my knitting. Folks got sort of quiet at that point, but I made a humorous remark and tried to just brush it off. He didn't get the point.

He pressed on with his rudeness, basically saying that I must be gay because of my knitting. Well, as patient and easy going as I am he pushed me past my point (we all have one) and I walked over and slugged him.

I hit him hard enough to knock him off his stool and to communicate my feelings, but not hard enough to do any serious damage. He got up and took a swing at me, which I easily dodged, and I hit him again, just a tad harder than the first time. As he got up again several guys grabbed him and dragged him out the door while a couple of others got between us and tried to convince me that he wasn't worth the trouble. I agreed and sat back down.

I don't know what's wrong with some people, but sometimes they just need a good smack in the head to try and set them right. Probably didn't do any good in this guy's case, but I have to admit that it made me feel a bit better.

The other folks in the bar agreed that he deserved it and were glad that he was gone. Myself, I ordered a BBQ sandwich to go, finished my beer, and returned to the motel.

I don't go out to get into fights, I go out to relax, enjoy a bit of socializing, and just enjoy the evening. Jackasses like that just ruin the whole mood. If I run across him again I am pretty sure I'll probably slug him again just for ruining my evening.

Well now, I guess he learned a thing or two about knitting, eh?

I can't even imagine going up to someone and slugging him even though I've felt like it sometimes.

It must be a guy thing!

Nowadays you have to be careful.  They may kill ya when you turn your back.

Be careful out there.

 he'd be more likely to have a serious face ache as I tend to go for the nose break as it ends most fights very quickly. I'm getting too damn old for those old, long, drawn out scraps.

Getting hit twice has never appealed to me.

Actually, I'm a very easy-going sort and it takes a lot to rile me to getting physical. Some folks just deserve a good smacking.
