The ONLY thing MISSING that ANNOYS the crap out of me

The ONLY thing MISSING that ANNOYS the crap out of me

Voicechat.

Seriously Stardock, this is a feature that will enchance this multiplayer-oriented game 10fold.

Welcome to videogaming after the year 2000.  ALL FPSs have it, all co-op Action/RPG games have it.  Recent RTSs have voice chat (Red Alert 3, anyone?).  Hell, even puzzle games have it!

Put it in, damnit!!

Okay... voice chat in games is probably the STUPIDEST ideas ever. CnC3, C-S, UT3 and a bunch of other games really exemplify this. Why?

First of all, do you know what the point of voice chat is? To help your teamates better communicate with you? Hell no. Sure it is annoying to type, but it is also annoying to be forced to press and hold a button to speak. Also, games are pretty much the main reason why people can't spell today. Who the hell says "Watch out, they are in the woods coming to gank you" when you can type "care bot" and get out the same meaning? I can easily type "b" faster than I can hold K and say "They are going to bombsite B," in C-S. Maybe I can shave off a couple of seconds if I bound the button to my middle mouse button, but I find typing "b" much more convenient. So what the hell is voice chat for? So 12 year olds can swear at you in all their high-pitched glory. Seriously, no joke. Have you ever even played a game where voice chat is used effectively when it is provided? I never have, and usually mute people if I can. I don't need to ever use the function, which brings me to my second point.

Why the hell do you need voice chat when you have Ventrilo and Team-Speak? Not because you are too poor, for it isn't hard to invade someone else's vent and bring your friends along for some late night action (>.>). Hell, there are public channels for your convenience. Sure you have to deal with a couple of idiots who need a hobby here or there, but it sure as hell beats the in game function, where kids learn how to swear and call you a n00b before they learn their alphabet, or how to play the game for that matter. I don't even need to reach down and hold a button to speak, I just talk. I have never played a game where convenience like that has been offered to me. Sure I can't talk to my teammates in a Pub, but I'm getting to that on my third point.

No on in pubs want to hear you speak. It's as annoying as hell when some smartass cranks up his microphone and starts shouting into it like he is playing in the WCGs or something. I have a hard time deciding which is more annoying, the smartass or the 10 year old. It's a goddamn pub for God's sake. No one gives a crap that you need help. Helping you won't increase their k/dr and they won't care beyond that. Yes, winning in a public game might give you whatever incentive you get that makes you go crazy on your teammates, but this is only their 3rd time playing and they don't know what the hell you are saying when you tell them that they should run. "Run? Whuzzat? Why is there words coming on my screen? I thought I was playing single player."

Bottom line is, in game voice chat is a gimmick, and completely unnecessary. I rather SD and GPG waste their time on something else than voice chat in game.

I take it from your post you have no idea what voice chat is about?  Do you even get the point behind the idea?  Seems like you got kicked out of some lolpub team because your voice was too annoying.

Simply put, voice chat helps enable the team of either light or dark to communicate more easily.  I prefer not to connect to a vent everytime I join a game, especially on top of the waiting for the game to connect.  If I had in-game voice I would most definately use it.  I use vent whenever I play with my online friends, much easier than typing.

Being able to say, "Snipe him, he has one hit left" or "Lay mines in front of the flag please" without having to type it?  Yeah, I would prefer that.  My character is just standing there while I type.

This mic is the best mic you will find and only for 5 bucks.  It can even sit on your desk.

You just proved you had no idea what you are talking about by that first sentance.  The second one is even more worse.  As basically any program has a talk sensitivity button.  Plus, pressing the mouse 3 button (scroll wheel) or even side buttons (mouse 4 and 5) to decrease the time you were going to say something by half and while still being able to move?  Rofl, please tell us you were kidding.

You do know that most places in Europe know better English than most Americans?  Have you even ever been to Europe?  Probably not.  Seems you are the ignorant one bud.

All of you I-tards who keep saying

"Oh, well me a buddy use vent/skype/teamspeak" are very stupid.
When I get on with my brother, I use ventrillo!  It is very nice, and it is what caused me (coupled with playing L4D) to go on this triade!

This is a small team game, not an MMO or a FPS (with 20+ on a side).  This game is a perfect setup for VOIP.  Why would you mute people?  Like someone said earlier, and I agree, that PC gaming is adult-oriented.  This isn't Xbox 360, or World of Warcrack, where everyone's TOASTER can run it!

So, my question- why is there ANY disagreement for VOIP, eventually?

I'm sorry but you just failed this HUGE block of text.  My guess would be you are one of those ppl running -2 or maybe 2 on sim speed and telling everyone the game is perfectly fine!  built-in voice chat is a horrible idea and i've yet to see it work worth a shit.  Every game that has built-in voice... people end up using vent anyway.   So it shouldn't be a feature of the game... but in no way is anything you said about voice chat being bad or "worse" than typing correct.

Sorry to flame bud but are you retarded? You start off by saying:

"Oh, well me a buddy use vent/skype/teamspeak" are very stupid.

and then you go on to say in the very next sentence:

When I get on with my brother, I use ventrillo!

You do know taht vent = ventrillo right? Also what does a MMO or FPS have to do with the assumed requirement for voice chat? It's a team based multiplayer game. That fact alone should be all that is needed to say "Hey sure would be nice to have some form of voice chat". Also, Skype = VOIP you know that right? Were you drunk when you wrote that post?

You clearly didnt understand my context, and that is partly my fault.

I meant to say that I used ventrillo, and that those suggesting to use it have no point.
I already use vent, but VOIP for this game still needs to be installed

voip?? that is a first

Try around 8 sim speed bud.  Ever played World in Conflict?  Or a steam based game?  Your logic is so full of fail.  You do not have to rageqqpewpew when somebody actually argues against your topic rofl.

Certainly.  The cooperation required in this sort of game could be enhanced with built-in VoIP for those who aren't members of, for instance, a Ventrillo server.  Furthermore, Skype tends to use too many system resources and, in my experiences with it, results in a lot of lag (choppy voices, if nothing else).  So, yeah, for those who also aren't even apart of any arranged team, built-in VoIP would drastically decrease their chances of not getting pwnt by MY uber-cooperative team - Okay, maybe not DRASTICALLY :P, but some.
