Slidin' down the slippery slope

Well, I'll skip introductions, because I'm sure we all know what the slippery slope concept is, and how it can damage a game.

Demigod suffers from this quite a bit. Get 2 levels higher then your opponent, and things can get much worse much faster. However, that leads to some issues with Demigod. Because of the long nature of the games, they tend to get pretty sad once this hits. It's either a slaughterfest or simply boring as hell once the players start moving along the slope. In order to fix that, I suggest one of two things (or both!)

1. Give teams the ability to concede defeat. Fairly simple. Of course, the decision would have to be unanimous. Basicly, a way to end a game once things get stupidly one sided.

or

2. Balance things in such a way that the slippery slope can be avoided, so that teams can still have a chance at victory, even after things have gone south.

Either solution would be fine. Just as a way to get out of games that end up being a mindless loop of die>respawn>die>respawn>die....

I think getting much more gold for kills on people who are higher level, on a killing streak, etc, would help some with the slippery slope.

But for the large part, the snowballing is how all RTS operate.

Why? The reason why this 'slope' happens is because of a losing team's incompetence. It's an RTS remember, and it's all about how well you can micro-manage and strategize. if you're defeated early on, then defeated middle game, you're going to lose. I would argue the exact opposite. Make it so when someone is losing, it's much harder for them to delay the game any longer when they inevitably are going to lose.

I don't mind when even games can take an hour-hour and a half, just when you play a terrible team that has no hope to even come back without using the game to compensate for their lack of skill, it just wastes time.

The 'slippery slope' will always be in effect, as that's how RTS' conclude.  Innociv makes a good point that killing a demigod of higher level than you really needs to pack a whoppin reward.  I feel it already does, but this should certainly watched to be sure that it's enough of a reward, or even possibly too much of one.

The point of the slippery slope is that if the losing team is truly incompetent, they can't take advantage of the slippery slope because it is beyond them. Getting extra gold for higher level kills is like this. An incompetent team wouldn't be able to pull this off.

This isn't an RTS.  Not even close to an RTS, it's missing too many fundamental RTS mechanics.  I thought I made a post in this thread but apparently not.  Games where one side gains an irreversible advantage need to end faster.  This is the only problem.  The so called "slippery slope" mechanic is fine and keeps games from lasting hours.

If evening out the slippery slope is such a problem, then make it end faster. At least give a losing team the chance to forfeit.
