Can we please NOT show our master impulse login names as our SN in game?

Really people?

My master log in is the only option I have as my screen name?

K, thx, gj.

? I'm not afraid to tell you mine, It's the same as my forum name (because it made an impulse account for me when I registered here) but my actual showing name is what I put in my profile "Cerulean Shaman" without the underscore. I'd expect it would be whatever you put for your profile.

It is for everyone. Your Impulse username is no secret :)

If you're worried about people finding you on the internet, perhaps you should A) remember that the game is also on the internet and B) don't be an ass if you don't want people sending you angry PMs or whatever.

i think he is more worried about someone hacking your account.

Like if they know your usename from forums / ingame ect then i guess they just need to try and brute force hack your password. -i know nothing about hacking (sounds like a catchy way to do it)

is safety an issue for your account if your username is already known ?

There is no security through obscurity. Choose a good password and use it carefully.

You'd make a terrible Politician.

Since the entire idea in politics is to secure your position by obscuring your position :).

The point is there is no true security with a single check system, if someone wants you hack your account they already have a starting point, your Username.  At that point it is truly a matter of time and how determined the attacker is to get into your acount.  If you obscure the login name (or atleast give the choice) then they don't even have a place to start, how do they know that "Insaniac99" is what I use a my login instead of just a display name?

Also can we please stop suggesting passwords and start suggesting Passphrases?  They are longer, easier to remember, and always provide a mix of capitol, lowercase, and punctuation.

So, this is real, I have to use my master login...

Not only is this a security issue, but also, my master SN, as MANY of the SNs I

am seeing online, are not exactly the easiest to remember.

It makes it that much more difficult to build community, especially when then

in-game chat is so weak, when half the people I play with are named "32johnpz"

or something similar...

Why can we not choose a "handle" for ourselves online?

I have never played an online game that forces you to publicly use your mater login

as your only public ID.

Ugh, that sucks.  So when I go to play online i'll be Dahzeal33 and I can't choose my usual online game handle? :pout:

I like being civil and nice on forums, but I like talking some quality shit in games.  I don't want to bring that to the forums.

Yes, that seems to be the way it plays out >_<

I also would like an in game alias as opposed to a master name that (From what I understand, please let me know if I'm wrong) I can't change. I didn't intend this to be my in game alias, only my login name.

Why is there no way to change it? I thought there would be since every game I have EVER played lets you have multiple accounts. I really don't want my RL name to be my ingame name. Seems like that would a security risk for the internet to know my real name =[[[

The web devs are planning to add some option for additional player aliases and manual renaming (independent of Impulse) once things settle down.

Everything using Microsoft's Live platform (Xbox 360, GfW), or anything on a PS3.

There.  A crudton of counter examples.

You can always change you login name for impulse to the name you would want to use in demigod. Just click on your forum name after you post and go to profile you have option to change your user name. Also I like that my forum handle is the same as my in game handle, I have nothing to hide lol. And if some one trash talks me in game I don't hold that against anyone, I find it very humors and adds to the game play experience.

How exactly is that a counter to his statement?  Just you listing it doesn't mean he's played it. ;)

I for one dont want to see the equivalent of level 1 trolls that we see so often making dumb posts on other forums starting up here using fake forum names to post whatever crap they want, i can understand if its for security reasons or whatever but please consider the trolling that youll be allowing. maybe having forums tied to an ingame name/pantheon stats and a seperate name for the master login on impulse?

What does this post has to do with the thread's topic, as formulated by the OP ?

Is it really necessary to spam threads with "we love you Stardock guys" posts ?

To remain on-topic, I will state that my in-game, DG nick still remains totally alien to my chosen nick : the game stubbornly refuses to recognize the new Impulse account name I have chosen ... in mid-March.

kryo said, on another thread, that some obscure data-base guys are working on it. They must be very low on the Stardock totem pole, because it seems to take them months to fix a very simple issue :

The in-game nick should at the very least ALWAYS be identical to the Impulse account nick.

"They"  cannot even achieve that. What the OP asks for must be beyond the neurocognitive powers of those low-paid "data-base" guys -- whatever they are.

While I am not quite as up in arms about this issue as Ms. S. is, I am given to

agree in the large part with her sentiment:

I feel that this is an important, as well as fairly easy to fix issue. While development

did eventually mention that they would "get around" to fixing it "eventually", I feel there

is a very important security issue here:

Many people use the same master account name across many different applications.

Quite often, username databases are stolen from websites and game servers. For those

interested in nefarious deeds that have access to this sort of information, how hard is

it to scan the usernames in-game from a warez copy, then do a search for those names

through their stolen databases?

You think this sounds far-fetched? A single impulse account may own hundreds of dollars

worth of games. If a user has the same username/password combination across multiple

applications, there is no telling what the upper monetary limit to a potential security breach

could be.

I think this is a very realistic and fair security risk, yet the first two responses from development

were glib fortune cookie clichès that do nothing to address the issue.

The fact is that many of here are now paid beta testers playing under an arbitrary security

risk. I understand that it is not easy wrangling dissatisfied internet goons for a living, but

I for one paid for this experience, and I would prefer my sensetive user information not

be dealt with in such a fast and loose fashion.

I can already tell that some of you are going to make the argument that this is the user's

fault for not being more security minded. You may have a point, but does development

really need to go out of their way to punish them for it? Even if your master user name is

only used for this system, that is still every purchase you have made through impulse that

is now somewhat more at risk.

I think we deserve better than half-cocked glib responses.

Furthermore:

"You can always change you login name for impulse to the name you would want to use in demigod. Just click on your forum name after you post and go to profile you have option to change your user name. Also I like that my forum handle is the same as my in game handle, I have nothing to hide lol. And if some one trash talks me in game I don't hold that against anyone, I find it very humors and adds to the game play experience."

I have already done this. The user name that appears here in the forums and that I am greeted with

inside impulse is NOT the same name that appears inside the game. What appears is my master user-name,

NOT my alternate public handle.
