Dell Dock

So i just got dell dock and it won't let me add any shortcuts to it.  i tried moving them from the desktop and the start menu and it won't let me move them.  I can move the ones on it around but a can't add any new shoutcuts.  I have impulse which might be screwing it up but i doubt it.  Also i've tried to add shortcuts and the original files but nothing works.  how am i supposed to get the stuff on there and off my desktop??

You should be able to drag anything to the dock. Be sure to drag it in-between other entries. When you do, you'll get something that looks like my screenshot on the left side. When you release your mouse button in order to drop the shortcut onto the dock, it should be there, like my screenshot on the right side.

if it's like Object dock then right click on an open spacew on the dock and select "view" then in the sub menu make sure "Lock Icon Dragging" is unchecked.

If you right-click anywhere on the dock, even on a shortcut, you should see an option for "Advanced settings." Two of the options under advanced settings are "Add A Shortcut" and "Edit Dock Contents." Add a shortcut will explain how to, er, add a shortcut  :O while "Edit dock contents" will explain how to move things around or to edit/create categories.

I do not see any options for "Lock Icon Dragging" in the Dell Dock. ;)

Silly question, this is still only available to folks that have a Dell computer, right?

Information on the Dell Dock can be aquired here: http://www.delldock.com/

I prefer ObjectDock Plus myself, but some people like this one better...  to each his own.  Heck, Shirley is in love with the Impulse Dock :)

Right. Some have hacked it to work on other systems, but that's never really a good idea.

Same here; but there are some features that the Dell Dock has that would be really cool if added to OD+, like the categories.

Do You have a link to more info on this, My comp used to be a Dell , new ram, new vista, and a reformat and now I cant use this sweet dock.

i would prefer object dock if It had Headings, groupings, or stacks, whatever you'd like to call it!

I have looked 2 times a day for like 5 days and Cant find any info on cracking it!?

Yes, the Dell Dock only runs on Dell computers.  But you can download it if you have an existing Dell from www.delldock.com.

I have the same problem, just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my new Dell Inspiron, it had it installed on it before and worked fine. I went to the Delldock site and downloaded it, it installed with no problems however when I try and drag items to or from it, it just gives me a black circle with a black line through it. The shortcuts it installs with it work fine yet you cannot drag them to the desktop and vice versa. Just fyi, I know how to use the software as I have it installed elsewhere, it just does not work with windows 7.

I know that Stardock created the Dell Dock for Dell, but you may want to also bring this to Dell's attention.

Maybe the programmers need to give the Dell Dock a little W7 TLC. And really, if Dell owns the dock, then it's their responsibility to make sure it gets fixed.

Just realised I have resurected a dead post, sorry.

They call 'em Necrothreads!

OK, so I fixed my own problem, seems W7 has reverted back to W98 tendancies, after a restart it now works.

I am now going to crawl away from this thread with ones tail between one's legs.

You can solve that problem by Right Clicking on the Dell Dock

Go to Advanced Setttings

Uncheck the "Lock Dock Settings" selection

Hope this helps,
