Interesting problem . . . generous folks these dread lords mmm . . . I had a similar experience. Also when my debt became negative -10 000 is suddenly became +10 000, I lost the game anyway but thought I should mention this here.

I am still playing version 1.04 because I keep having log in failures and can't run SDC. ;p

Upgrading Stardock to the latest build solved my problems, too.

Yay! I'm playing GalCiv again! :D

AutoSurvey and AutoAttack only work if there are anomalies visible in the first case, or ships visible in the second.
End of quote

Cari, thanks for the info. Since AutoSurvey works like that I guess I either have to leave the brown-nosing "look what clever me found" messages enabled or keep checking the survey ship. Could you extend its behaviour so if no anomaly is visible it heads for the nearest unexplored area? "It's ongoing mission, to not seek out new worlds and new civilisation, unless it happens to spot an anomaly in the right direction". Doesn't quite have the same ring, does it? ;)

Erroneous population?
I got the Fundamentalists event. Sol flipped, along with many worlds (all 5 races and myself were pure evil).
I extort some money from the fundies to prevent them from building up defenses, churn out combat transports on all my worlds, axe their battle axes, and invade. I invade Sol. Can't remember what I used, probably information warfare. Net result: Sol V and Earth have a morale of 1. It takes me several turns to realize that's because of pop. Sol population was about as important as my whole empire population prior to the fundies event. I had to send out transports for about 20 turns before pop wouldn't cause morale to be 1. The game shows a nice pop step when I reconquer Sol. This much pop was quite annoying, as I had to build transports and carry them anywhere they wouldn't cause massive morale loss. One weird thing too, Earth (PQ 23 at the time) and Sol V (21) had the same population figures. I think there must have been a problem with the pop value after invasion because I couldn't have beaten 120+billions with my 5 billions. That or the fundies have a way of boosting population that is unheard of elsewhere.

Just lately in longish games (3 hours straight) GC seems to crash to the desktop more often now I'm running ver 1.05. Although I'm using Windows 2k, would I be better off using another OS for this particular application to get a bit more stability?

I've uninstalled completely, reinstalled and applied the patch and Bonus then upgraded to 1.05 via SDC. So generally are there any theories regarding GC stability? I read some where it's sound related, I do get some strange clicks and crackles during the game that freak me, don't know if thats helpful information at all . . . the auto save feature saves a lot of grief, thankfully?

Does the program make use of the newer Main Board and CPU protocols? I was just wondering because my Photo shop 6 used to do a very similar thing . . . :)

Oh . . . I had a hassel uncolonizing a single planet in a system. When the colonists bugged out the whole system population would take off with them? You see I wanted to destroy the colonies but not the colonists. Fiddled around abit but couldn't find a way to select a singular planet to de-populate. Also the colonize transport picture that hovers over the system planets when your picking where to go just stays as an arrow after playing for a while . . . a very minor but a bit annoying (I accidently colinizes a type 3 Saturn Planet! The Galactic Council will never let me live it down . . especialy considering I tried to stick it out on there for most of the game (hehe)

Also, I was wondering if the other races can offer technology you already have? Or is there something else going on here (i.e. when you buy a tech its only the portion of the research the alien has done, which would be kewl). Else you see, I was offered a particular tech several times eventhough I had finished researching it 'Shield' I believe and perhaps a few others.

If its like a trick thats kewl, but kinda pissed me off because I started to have to write down the techs I had (entering and exiting negociations by whim isn't always possible - hence I can't check the achive history) . . .

Also, A couple times I'm sure I've traded for a group of techs a couple times 'star diplomacy was the one I was desperately after', but only seemed to get one of the many I haggled for? I probable did something whong . . . unless someone else has had a similar proble with tech trade?

A few new ones and some old ones. All from 1.05.071.

1. The 'wordy' trade summary window. The one that states "Our overall trade surplus is N bc..." Has a minus sign in front of the trade surplus number.

2. As others have pointed out we still have races coming back from the dead to declare war on you if you are at war with their former allies. I've seen the Drengin, Yor, and Torians come back from the dead this way.

3. If you attempt an invasion of a planet and use one of the 'costs money' invasion options followed up with the landing of troops and you don't succeed in taking the planet. The damage you caused to the planet vanishes. This is visible if you come back the following turn with enough troops to take the planet outright without using any of the 'costs money' options.

Has anyone else noticed the interest rate charged by Terran Manufacturing in the latest v1.05 version?

Yes, the trade routes button is something that should have been hidden.

Tibalt: are you talking about techs or social projects or trade goods? Do you have a save game that can reproduce this? If so, can you please send it to me? I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.

[email protected]

Cotal: regarding sound issues, try running this:

http://www.stardock.com/files/ms_mp3codec.exe

For those of you getting crashes, please install SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central.  If it is running when Gal Civ crashes, it will pop up a dialog. Click submit, then open log directory.  You can then attach the galciv.exe.cra file to an e-mail to me.

Thanks very much CariElf, I'll do that 4 sure . . . :)
Also re Big David's post : "Has anyone else noticed the interest rate charged by Terran Manufacturing in the latest v1.05 version?"

- yes I did (do you mean the top one or the third one down, I can remember) the third one down is like totally ridiculous, I was after a quick Exchange last night and wanted to pay it off befor someone else built one, and the third choice was 756 or something bc plus 151 per month for 69 months! What a bargin, NOT! Hehe.:)

I hope I got tghe facts right there, its all written in stone after 15 minutes

This might be already posted, but I found in my latest game (1.05.71) after building Dreadnoughts, they don't show a picture, not at building the ships, not after building the ships and not in the game display. They are just blank.

Freya,

This is a known bug and can happen with any ship type. To 'fix' the invisible ship problem you have to do a save, restart the game and reload.

Version 1.05.71

1) Numerous times when I hit the turn button, the button would change to the "clock" but nothing would happen. I could still move around the map and such, so the game hadn't crashed. I ended up just going into the Domestic Policy screen and then the game would continue.

2) While I was not at war with anybody, I had both a star base and a ship sustain damage from "nowhere". Could have been something I didn't notice.

3) I had one CTD - while in-game I went to the menu and tried to load another game. I didn't try to reproduce it though.

I've had this happen to me also... i don't mind it though... i just figured that maybe the game was thinking so put up the clock to let me know not to mess with anything while it was their turn.

I've noted that this seemingly "endless end of turn" sometimes is caused by a colony ship reaching its goal, but me forgetting to "park" it on a planet. I.e. the game is actually expecting user input. Can that be your problem?

zorven:

1) Sounds like it's from hitting turn before going through all your project completion events. You can avoid this by exiting to the starmap.

2) When you get upgrades to HP, your ships show "damage" until they generate the new hit points.

3) Could you have been in the middle of colonizing a system at a time? That'll do it.

I was researching Improved Environment Control. When I had not yet completed research (it was "Next Month") it showed up on my trade screen with the Caronids, and I traded it for various things. However, it did *not* show up on the trade screen when I tried to trade it to any majors. The next month, I got the "research completed" screen and suddenly I could trade it with all the majors.

Bugs:
- Sometimes after a battle a ship loses exp. instead of gaining - it stays the same lvl, with a shorter xp bar
- On the domestic policies screen, under abilities, if Interest rates is shown, it takes two lines making all abilities after it show the wrong stats (shifted one line)
- planet list still sorts production wrong (social, military and overall) - disregards the bonus value
- when zooming in on the mini-map, some autopilot routes disappear
- Since latest version when you add something to the governor build list it overrides all current projects being build, that have a lesser priority (i.e., all wonders and every project further down the list)
- Since 1.04 or so, when you remove a request or offer of money on the trade screen, it also removes influence, and vice versa
- Changing propaganda does not update the planet list
- Before planet list was auto-updated on the economy screen, you sometimes had to press the planet list button several times to get the list "fully" updated. Now, moving the sliders updates the planet list, however, you still have to press the planet list button after changing them, and some info will update again.
- Pressing something during ships movement stops the ship from moving, but moves are deducted even if the ship doesn't complete its current grid movement (moves should only decrement upon grid movement completion). This also hampers the AI - sometimes when it moves a few ships together it will start moving one of them, and mid way start moving another. The first ship hasn't reached its destination with the others, but now had insufficient moves to join them.
- Any ship attacking a transport causes both to be destroyed, regardless of the transport being stacked or traveling solo.
- If the end turn button is pressed, and one of your ships finishes its auto-move, you get control over it. However, you cannot click any of the AI ships/bases for information, you get kicked back to viewing your ship.
- Specific ship info screen should show maintanence, so that you don't have to memorize the values by heart (perhaps instead of moves, which are viewable from the main screen without opening info screen).
- Trade routes should show base value so you know which one you can scrap to make a better one

Actually it is the 2nd line down that seems awry. You can lease something for LESS totatl payment than buying it outright.

Saving/loading does not work. If one creates a newsave game, one can load it. But one can never overwriteit, even though you get the overwrite confirmation boxand the hard drive seems to spin. Autosave still works. But that is not adequate, especially because the gameinexplicably still does not have a "wait" command forunits. Once a galaxy is settled, one might have hundredsof units. There are all kinds of situations where onewants to save before taking a possibly risky action.Such as going to the bathroom or going to bed.

Same problem. When I save a game, then try to load it, I get first a blank research screen (just the normal formatting, no information) and then a totally blank detail screen. Hitting menu takes me out of the game. I am running a 667 Celeron with about 900MB free (out of 14GB) Autosave still works fine.

i have a bug/glitch to mention, last night when a started playing a new game I noticed that at times i was able to trade techs that I had not actually researched and were still on my list of things to research... i wish i had a better example but i'm writing this post long after i had play some and decided not to continue and to delete the save.

Steve, that report that you're quoting sounds as if it's from an earlier build than 1.05...earlier than 1.04 too, I think.  What version are you using? Your words though sound like it's not saving all the game information.  Can you send me the files for the save game that you're trying to load? I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.

On the Minor Races tab of Foreign Policy, the upper left section called Report lists the following for I-League: String Not Found
Reply #275 Top
Here's one that was probably in there the whole time. Suppose a ship can travel to two sectors on a diagonal, but can't go through one of the sectors they both border.
Here's a rough sketch:
****
**__
It can go on the astrecized(?) sectors but not on the underscored sector. If you manually try to go on the underscored sector the game stops you, but if you set the ship on autopilot to cross the underscored sector on the way from, for example, the bottom left sector to the top right sector, the game calculates the shortest patch (through the forbidden sector), and will let the ship cross it.

Whew! There had to be an easier way to explain that!
