Because it is using the codec for the movie files try reinstaling windows media player, and this will sort out the codecs. It did for me.

Another bug: in the very late game (I'd basically already won), I left a planet alone after a warning that an "evil force" was gathering there. The Draginor showed up and immediately went to war with everyone. I contacted them and sued for peace in exchange for their ENTIRE TREASURY (something like 150000bc) for 50 turns...and then immedately blew them out of space with a Terror Star I happened to have nearby. Guess what? I continued to recieve 150k/turn. This was enough to set taxes at zero and spending at 100 in my large, heavily socially improved empire, and I subsequently researched the last two techs in 11 turns total. (!)

Don't know if this has been said before:

In the .60 version (don't know if it happened in previous versions), the social summary screen appears to be incorrect. I had each of the AI's giving me tribute at different points during the game, but the trade and tribute column didn't show any of this.

Well, yes, I must admit that when I got the message about an "evil force" on the planet I kinda sent my secondary TS over to keep an eye out. :D

(The primary one was running around with my Excaliburs, demolishing any Arcean planet I wasn't in the mood to colonize. Being good AND having Terror Stars is a rather odd combination.)

In the latest .62 update, I can only establish one trade route. Not evil and no UP resolution limiting evils to one in place anyway. I believe I have tech for four now and the slots show up. However, my freighter can't land on a planet.

This has never happened before and just finished a .59 game yesterday before installing the new update. It worked fine there and on every other version previously.

In 1.04.059 espionage seems to have quit working. There are two races that have techs I don't have and I paid more than enough espionage to raise to the advanced level with those two races several game years ago and still my spies have not stolen any of those techs.

Hi,

Has anyone else seen this bug? My game will crash right to windows if I purchase anything which sets me into negative spending. I'm running the .62 version, and this happened when I bought Gravity Accelerators early in the game. It also happened when I was running the .59 version and bought the Terraformer. That game became unplayable afterwards.
Also, in the .62 version - I had changed government to republic, but balked at having my negative income per turn double. I switched back to Imperial and every four years I have an election during Imperial Rule to see if I retain control of the senate.
What's the deal?

Cheers,

Henry

I seem to have found a bug, or mabey I am doing something wrong. I quit the UP so that I wouldn't have to put up with a starbace limiting rule, and some others that made me mad. Anyway I found that for some reason, even after I had left the UP I was still bound by their laws. Is this a bug or is there something else I have to do to not fallow the stupid laws. This makes me very mad because 1 was limiting starbases and I own 6 class 25-39 planets and it wount let me upgrade my starbase to make them plantes of the gods.

Good Evening,

Is this a bug or a design choice?
I am playing on the 1.04a.62 version and early in the game all of the minor races I have encountered may be solicited to attack or entreat peace of every race on the board. I first noticed it in particular with the Alexians. At turn two, they don't have the tech or the ships necessary to meet someone other than me, yet according to the treaty options they may go to war with everyone.
My treaty section has no such flexibility, so I would think neither would that of a minor race which has yet to explore another sector.
Thanks for taking a moment to hear me out.

Cheers,

Henry

If one of your planets (Earth) is developing a Trade Good (Aphrodisiac) and an opponent beats Earth to it, the Governor does not begin work on the next Social Project in the queue. It leaves Earth's Social Project slot empty.

I've been playing GalCiv for about three weeks now and am a little disturbed by how much paper and pencil busy work is required. Guys - we're using a computer. One thing that would help is this - when one of your planets is working on a unique project (Wonder, Trade Goods, Political Capital, etc.), can you gray it out on your other planets? That way the player can quickly click on the top planet on the planet list and know not to duplicate a project already underway.

I have a strange problem. While I am playing I will receive a lot more planets than I had the previous turn. I do not think it is because of my influence because it is usually lower than everyone elses. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know if this is a bug or not, but I just won a Small/Simple game via Military Conquest. I never captured a planet with attacking troops, and mostly just defended myself. Since I had Cultural victory turned off, it may have been that the game was scoring my planetary "conquests' as if they were Military takeovers
End of quote
That's by design. If the Terrans have culturally absorbed all other star systems but cultural victory has been disabled the game _has_ to end in some fashion.
End of quote

All well and good. now if I could only discover why the metavers nerfed my score from 46k on down to only about 3600, I'd be happ(y)(ier)

Blithely going along, I hit a CTD. I don't know what's wrong, and I'm fairly sure that I still have the autosave set for the default 12 game turn save ratio. Anyway, here's what SmartException pulled out:

When upgrading a star base for a catagory that has more than enough modules to display than requires a scroll bar, sometimes the list scrolls down one entry when selecting a module in the list.

Repeatable CTD with 1.04.062

I'm running into a very regular CTD that seems to be related to leasing a trade good or galactic wonder. I do the lease, take the turn, and right as it goes into the 'Yearly Status Dialog' reports, the game crashes. I have a saved game that always crashes when the turn is made, if that's of help. SmartException gives the following info:

Chantillary, the scoring got screwed up in the latest version. Frogboy said that there is a ^.75 missing from the in-game display formula so your scores will report very high in game. You can get a calculator and raise your score to the .75 power, and it will come out to exactly what the metaverse reports.

On 1.04.060 when a ship is auto-launched the bonus move points are added to the ship's total move points instead of the ship's current move points (7/9 instead of 9/7).
For many levels up through 1.04.060 in a governor's list (domestic policy "governor" screen) with more than 19 items attempting to remove any item beyond #19 (requires scrolling) removes a different item from the list. It is as if the item number is taken from the item's screen position instead of from the item's position in the list.

Windows 98se,gforce 3.

After a battle I keep getting kicked back to desktop.
Happens everytime. Tried rebooting computer etc but wont go past this turn. medium size galaxt, stars common.
Ok went back a few turns and figured out what causes the crash. The AI got tristronium Steel before I did. I went back a turn and lease purchased it.

That caused the game to kick out to windows. When I went back and did not lease purchase tristronium Steel,
then the game continued on as normal.

Is the AI mad because I bought the darn trade good the turn before it built it?

Latest version as of 6-9-03.

I-league message appears, but no planet defects. A few turns later one of my planet defect. I-league inaccessible through diplomatic screen "All minors dead" reported instead.

Save game and debug.err available.

Just installed 1.04 today!
Had the same problems mentioned as others, tech skips, invisible ships, & music going out, but here's a new one:
When my interface changed to Pure Good, I was no longer able to read the text on my ship stats at the bottem of my universe screen. The text is jumbled up with another text. Impossible to read unless you open the "I" box.

Love the game though!
