I've noticed the sound disappearing. It tends to restart the next time I research a tech. I think it happens when the game tries to play two sound effects simultaneously.

I think there's something wrong with the payment of longer deals specifically 1 turn deals...

In my game I wanted to buy 2 starbases from the drengin. I offered ~12k (all I had) but they refused. I increased duration from 0 to 1 turn and reduced the amount of money to ~8k. That was acceptable for em.

I lost 8k immediately but I never lost the other 8k... so please check, if everything is right with those deals.

I had that effect twice (the other time I bought lots of techs and 2 tradegoods from them for 15k x 1 turn and also only lost the money once...

I'll look into the corvette/transport thing.

SuperGamera: Is this after upgrading to new drivers?

TheHawkster: The opening menu or the in game menu?

rgibson: I'll look into the GNN issues. Not sure what would cause it to start going through planets twice.  With it not reporting the completion at all, you said that it happened when there weren't any more projects in the governor list for that colony?

Right, you aren't supposed to be able to trade when you're at war.  We'll have to look into that.

Added the save on last turn bug to my list.

tgrz: Yes, I would like to see the save game. I'll need both the .sav file and the coresponding folder. [email protected]

MadMaz: this appears to only happen if you've moved the window from its starting position.

mosesnbklyn: Can you please install SmartException from under the Free Stuff tab in Stardock central? It will pop up a dialog if it is running when Gal Civ crashes; click submit, then open log directory.  The file will be called galciv.exe.cra and if you could send that to me with your debug.err, it'll help me figure out why it's crashing.  Also, if you still have the game that reproduces that, it would be helpful as well.

You've never been able to put colony ships in orbit.

When you capture a planet with the trade good, you don't get to trade it to anyone else.

Shakespeare 101: were you online at the time?

cornelius_scipio: please send me your debug.err file and SmartException report. I give instructions for using SE above.

The invisible ships bug has been around for awhile; I'm still trying to figure that out.

For the stuff that I didn't respond to directly, I either already knew about it or just added it to my list.

Ship marker color on minimap is sometimes wrong. I think it only happens when a ship is on a border between two sectors. It returns to the correct color after a while. I have a screenshot in case someone wants proof.

AIL.ST in message #77:

It turns out that, on the trade screen, 12k for 0 turns is a lump-sum of 12k. 8k for 1 turns is 8k this turn AND 8k next turn. So, you're paying a total of 16k.

This behavior totally confused me, until I realized what was happening. Really, the "for 0 turns" and "for 1 turns" screen should emphasize the payment is the current turn plus that many future turns.

If anyone is getting a crash at the beginning of your turn, try deleting the events.civ0 file from your save game before loading it.

Whilst fixing things, may as well take out the line
about "GIA" expenses in the domestic summary, since
that is now separately covered by line items for
destabilization and espionage.

I'm still on 1.03 finishing up a game. Can anyone running 1.04.59 verify that the bug with trading trade goods has been fixed?

In 1.03 whenever I buy or trade for a trade good, it never shows up in my trade screen after that. I get the effect of the trade good, but I can't use it to trade for something else. Has anyone else seen this? Is it fixed in 1.04.59 or higher?

LATE GAME BUGS:

I was playing a game and some of my planets defected to the Altarians. However, the Altarians then attacked them thinking they were Torian planets.

Also i tried to attack a planet of mine that had defected to the Altarians around the same time..and
i couldn't. The game thought i was attacking myself.
It wouldn't let me do it..nor did it let me use it like
my own planet though.

I colonized a pq 14 then rush bought soil enhancement and it stayed at 14. So 14 x 1.10 = 15.4 should round to 15? I loaded a save and reverified this.

Since upgrading to 1.04, I have a problem that I haven't seen reported. The in-game music alternates between my two speakers, at about 1 second intervals. Intro music is just fine. Everything was fine under 1.03. My sound card is a Hercules Game Theater XP.

I encountered a minor problem in my latest game.
Didn't see it listed here....

On the Research Screen, no matter how I sorted the tech list (cost, name etc..), AVATAR Technology would stay at the top of the list (even though is was NOT the cheapest to research etc..)

I don't know if this was caused by saving the game and loading it up the next day, it didn't seem to happen before I saved

Anyone seen ship graphics disappear? Rangers and Dreadnoughts don't have icons on the galaxy map or in their build panels in my current game, begun under 1.04.59. Makes gameplay difficult.

What's up with the interface changing color? It looks fine at the beginning of the game, then changes to a white background with blue iconic symbols. Looks like placeholder graphics to me.

Ironrod1:
The disappearing graphics item is a known bug.

The interface color change you describe means that your in-game morality changed to "good". When that happens the background music and interface change. Also different areas of the tech tree open up for research.

Duglis:
There are some shifts that the game doesn't properly process until the End-of-Turn button has been pressed. If one of your planets defects to another race they game doesn't really acknowledge it in all respects until the turn has been processed.

If you are trying to attack it on the same turn it defects I think the behavior you describe is due to the above. If it's on some later turn then I have no idea.

Thank you, magus. I had a hunch the interface change might be a feature, but I couldn't figure out what triggered it. I presume there's a corresponding shift when turning evil?

Is there a workaround for the disappearing ships? Can I rename any files to have them called properly? Or shall I just wait patiently for a fix, like everyone else?

Ironrod1,
When the ships start disappearing, just save, quit the game and reload. Takes only 30 seconds and your ships are there again.

And btw YES there is a correspondig shift when turning evil. That feature is mentioned in the doc and many other places. Sometimes it really makes sense to read this stuff. ;)

That feature is mentioned in the doc

D'oh! I did scan the updated manual before posting, but didn't read that section to the end. I deserve your scolding.

Magus: Unfortunately, it is on a later turn.

Just noticed this and confirmed it for myself. When messing with sliders, the research time-to-completion varies with the position of the slider, not the actual percentage allocated. I think this is new; how I checked it: go to the sliders in a new game. Without touching the other sliders, adjust social to 0. Now mil is 50, res is 50 (or 49/51, whatever). Time to complete xx theory is yy months. Slide both mil and research to the top of their bars, both should still be set to 50. Time-to-complete is now different. For me it was 6 months to 5 months in one game, for example.

PS I don't think it actually affects anything, just confusing

Not sure what happened with this one.
Built a TerrorStar. I placed it in a fleet with a couple of Excaliburs as defence as it moved to its objectives against the sole remaining Major (Torian). Things seemed fine and I ended the game for the evening. Today, loaded up the save game, and for some odd reason the TerrorStar now had a move of 17 (equal to the Excalibur). I tried un-grouping the fleet, but the TerrorStar on the following turns maintained a speed of "17/1".
Needless to say, the game ended far faster than I had expected, although it was a forgone conclusion (Excaliburs in almost all of the Torian sectors blasting any in orbit ships that formed and a set of Excaliburs on auto-attack mopping up any freighters).
Now is this a bug as I suspect? Or is this (long-shot here) some odd feature to speed up an endgame in which an opponent has no military ships in space, no economy and next to no planets.
I have a savegame if it helps at all. 1.0459 was the version played, all AI's on 'Bright'.

And by the by, other than this one odd quirk that really didn't change the outcome (all the hard fighting came first, before the TerrorStar), congrats on a brilliant game. It's rare enough that I feel I got my money's worth on a game. It's even rarer to feel that I got *more* than my money's worth ;)

Not sure if this one has been reported or not. But I wiped out one of the minor races which ended with an invasion.
After a traditional invasion in which I won the movie came up with text with the ships closing in on the planet. Press 'Done' and the next movie comes up with different text about ground and air superiority. However, the movie is the same as the previous one. It should be the movie with the ship zooming over the ground and overheard and then shooting the city. I know this because I had saved prior to the invasion and reloaded to do the invasion again. One of the times the movie was correct.

Thanks

In my most recent game (1.0459, Crippling), both the Altarians and Torians got Warp Drive (and Battleships) before anyone (including the minors) had Anti-matter. Furthermore, the Altarians, Arcaens, and Torians all got Virus Elimination before anyone had Organic Piecing or Genetic Mapping
