Ok I have one that was not present in the most previous version.

In the Economic screen, the sliders where you set your spending priorities. The little lock icon that locks a spending at a set percentage for research, or social or military is now gone, meaning I can not lock spending for one to play with the others. I thought that was a useful feature.
Reply #2 Top
Ditto with zodden. I loaded previous save game and noticed right away the little locks were gone. Deleted the save games and started a new one and they are still gone. I'm sure that wasn't a desired result of the upgrade ;)

Apparently the locks weren't supposed to be in the game yet, they are still experimental and are schedule for the expansion pack. Guess we will just have to wait.

There is a bug when playing windowed with the economic screen. If you move the window from the 0,0 position the scroll bars get all funny and dont work as expected. I guess this is due to one of the zone checks checking from 0,0 of the screen instead of 0,0 from the window.

Late game. My allies Torians lost their last planet to my cultural conquest way back. When the last remaining AI Arceans declare war, the Torians (or their ghost) announce that they will join in the war on my side.

There may have been a problem when the Torians lost their last planet - can't seem to remember the "civ gone" info box.

Intermittent crashes. I've seen 10+ crashes in this one game, but they are not reproducible by reloading.
Reply #5 Top
Saving/loading does not work. If one creates a new
save game, one can load it. But one can never overwrite
it, even though you get the overwrite confirmation box
and the hard drive seems to spin. Autosave still works.
But that is not adequate, especially because the game
inexplicably still does not have a "wait" command for
units. Once a galaxy is settled, one might have hundreds
of units. There are all kinds of situations where one
wants to save before taking a possibly risky action.
Such as going to the bathroom or going to bed. The
lack of the ability to save makes the game unplayable.
I suppose I need to uninstall; reinstall from CD; then reinstall the 1.03 patch. What a pain. Maybe it's time to go back to Morrowind. P.S. Above was true on 1.04.58, not tested yet on .59, but I note that the news items about .59 say nothing about fixing the save problem.

Doh! Experimental or not they appeared to work fine. I'm all for seeing them leaked again.

I just wanted to say you guys ae awesome! I love this game, am looking forward to free expansion pack (though I'd pay for it if you wanted), and hope you guys continue devloping this game with further expansions. Thanks I'm really having fun on my computer for once. Why? I'm playing against good AI that acts humanesque and doesn't cheat.

Thanks so much!!

Help, or will 1.03.xx be made available to update a re-install??? (I was almost finished with a "HUGE" game with that version)
Blast!!!

I also have noticed that the game doesn't recognize AIs as being defeated completely (they disappear from the diplomacy screens, but still declare war on you if you attack their allies) when they are totally overpowered culturally and absorbed... I had this happen in a game the other day but I don't remember if it was before or after 1.04... apperently it's still there though.

shippak2.SHIP --- spelling error
//----------------------------------------------------SHIP Dreadnought
//----------------------------------------------------

Name "Dreadnought"
Description "Nothing is dreaded more by the enemy than a Dreadnaught!"

so which one is it? Dreadnought or Dreadnaught

dreadnought \DRED-nawt\ (noun)
1 : a warm garment of thick cloth; also : the cloth
2 : battleship
*3 : one that is among the largest or most powerful of its kind

"Fear nothing" -- that's essentially what "dread" plus "nought" means. The name might seem a strange one for a garment, but if you consider that dreadnoughts were worn on board ship, you can appreciate the colorful name perhaps as much as the seafaring men must have appreciated the thick protection. The clothes and the cloth, first called
"fearnought" in the late 18th century, came long before the battleship. Not until 1906 did the British Navy launch the HMS Dreadnought, the first battleship to have a main armament consisting entirely of big guns all of the same caliber. All ships of this type were then called "dreadnoughts." That particular type of battleship soon became obsolete, but their legacy lives on in the extended third sense of "dreadnought."

*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.

I was playing earlier today, having fun destroying my enemies star systems when suddenly the game crashed. Luckily I had saved it recently and I just loaded it back up. Anyway once I load back into the game the strangest thing ever happens - my TerrorStar's movement is listed as 9/1 instead of 1/1 and I am having the ability to move my TerrorStar 9 moves per turn which lets me make quick work of my enemies.
Besides the crash, the only thing that happened that I can remember before I noticed this was the discovery of UltraDrives, the event telling my ships speed is increased by 50%. This certantly wouldn't make my TerrorStars move 9 times as fast.
Also! My TerrorStar was part of a fleet with 12 Rangers, and after I moved this fleet with my terrorstar the 9 spaces I was able to move it, the Rangers had 5 movement points left, even though should only have 1! My TerrorStar's movement points were listed at 9/1, and the Rangers at 10/10, but after I moved 9 spaces with the fleet the Rangers were only at 5/10 with their movement points.

Suffice to say this was really odd!

1. After spending enough on espionage to get "Advanced" infiltration status if you go to the stats for that empire in the diplomacy screen - Misc section - Espionage spending: the value there is 128850021 (seems to be an overflow somewhere)

2. Same area as above - if you toggle between the different race's stats there were two races where the game stated they were 5th overall and no one was in third.

3. If a ship is on top of a mini-freighter you can not click on it to take it out of auto-pilot.

4. If researching the same tech that is traded for via the diplomacy screen the game pops the usual research completion screen one turn later for the traded for tech, even if you have already switched to researching another tech.

5. AI races get the unique trade goods if they conquer the planet that developed it. This is a change. Do the Terrans get the same benefit?

6. On the options screen - current victory status - Research victory was listed as 102% this was while researching galactic creation.

If the dreadnaught is so dread and fearful, why on earth can a pheonix, whose specs are apparently lower than a dread, defeat a dread that's fresh our of construction? I'm beginning to find that Lesser ship appear able to defeat more powerful ships, and ships that come together to form a fleet against a more powerful ship are still defeated.
If I have five battle cruisers against a drengin dreadnaught - how on earth can my five cruisers lose to that one ship? That's not pretty realistic. Whether in the future, past or the present - no Dreadnaught can stand against five battle cruisers! If I were to ask - "is this a ballance problem?" If it is - it doesn't hurt my love for the game - but it would be nice to learn how fix little problems like this!

I note that the news items about .59 say nothing about fixing the save problem.
End of quote

from the announce:
+ Overwriting saved games from previous version had problems now fixed.

nebuchad: the number/type of ships can be nearly irrelevant if the attack/defense bonuses for one side completely overwhelm the other. what this represents is technological superiority.

it's all about research, you could research the appropriate ship-types or you can go the 1d 2d 3d phasing path and rack up the attack/defense bonuses.

it's not a balance problem. think of ship type as a measure of size/chassis/hull and the bonuses as a measure of how effective the weapons and shielding are.

(side note: start a cakewalk difficulty game and set the survey ship you start with to auto-survey and watch it pickup attack/defense/hp bonuses from anomalies. by mid-game it should be able to blow away anything your opponents can throw at you.)

ok

1. I've gotten messages regarding major civilizations that i haven't even contacted yet. Like-- Yor paying
tribute to Drengin to avoid war and i haven't made contact with either yet.

2. I've received those messages mentioned above from
civs that should have disappeared from the game.

3. Don't know if it was just my game..but everyone was
at war with everyone else. I've never seen such a warlike game. War all over the place. Normal setting.
This was my first game with 1.04.59

Overall, I have to say the best was the final version
of 1.03 :(

There's another issue that I think was in all versions from the beginning on. It's about the minor races...

How is their intelligence determined? I think it's always set to the same, regardless too what difficulty-level you are playing on. That way especially for less experienced players they put up a reasonable problem on the lower levels and especially in smaller galaxies, since they are quite likely to be more powerful than the majors.

I think this should be changed. Make the IQ of the minors to be the average of that what you set up for the majors and not what it is at the moment.

This one is tricky to reproduce as well as describe. Lets say I send a constructor to a +morale resource. For some reason, when I double click on the module I want to install, it throws me to the bottom of the module list. I dont remember seeing this behavior before, and strangely, it seems it only happens on the +morale resouces. Again this one is tricky to reproduce. --CLARIFICATION: I think this is doing it across the board, but is more noticeable if the modules per section (usually mining) extends off the bottom. Single/double clicking a module at the top of the list causes it to scroll immediately to the bottom of the list.

I came across a bug. There is a screenshot here http://www.jeffpinard.com/espionage_spending.jpg the espionage spending should have been the exact same as the destabilization spending amount.

In this same game, the music, then sound effects cut out after awhile. Never had that happen before. After quitting and reloading the sound came back. I have a savegame if you'd like it.

Version 4.0000 -

* OS: Win XP Home SP1
* Directx 9
* Processor: Athlon XP 2700+ (333 MHz bus)
* Motherboard: Asus A7N8X
* Bios Rev: Version 1003
* NForce II drivers: 2.0
* Memory: Corsair 1 Gig DDR 3500 CL2
* Video Card: ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Cat 3.2
* Sound Card: SB Audigy 2
* 3 IBM Hard Drives: ATA 100 - 80 Gig 7200 rpm
* Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u - 22”

a plenty minimap issues:

Starbases... why do I have to remember their positions or park a freighter near them just to see they're there? A starbase usually does not change its position unless it becomes a Terror Star, so the enemy starbases shall be seen on the minimap once scouted and only disappear when they become a TS or are destroyed! It's ridiculous (but cool), that I can see if a planet is defended or not by the brightness of its color on the minimap but not to remember where starbases are!

Populations... Why do I see the colored population-balls of planets I've not scouted yet? I shall not be able to! Normally I don't even see that an empire owns a planet but with population-balls set "on" I instantly see every planet they have without the need of scouting!

Influence... Either I'd not see the influence of a race I have no contact with or I'd get contact when I can see their influence... Choose one, but don't let it as it is.

Stealth Ships... They are supposed to not be seen, right? Well, I don't see them but my long-range-scanners do! They are on the minimap and when I want to kill them, I can zoom in and navigate to them via the minimap!

Stellar Resources... the X's shall be bigger when fully zoomed out on a Huge/Gigantic map, even if it overlays other things. I want to notice resources getting free, on Huge and gigantic maps aswell!

bug- i dunno- NORMAL seems alot harder than it used to be in regards to everyone rushing to war with each other and so forth.

Not sure if this is a bug or just strange. One game I did not invent 'universal translators' (just for fun). But sometimes I did get messages from empires when they wanted something or declared war.

i've noticed this too. the minor races when they appear can have an advantage over easy-difficulty major races. it sucks when the minor races get ahead and they can't be destabilized (or espionaged for that matter).

Okay, here's my next one:

In a game on medium/common 4 AI's at Stupid, Yor at Increadible, I sold a lot of techs to the Drengin for a lot of money. But then they surrendered to me.

I would expect that the tribute (155 bc for 26 month were dealt out) would stop flowing, but it did not!

Conclusion:

Check if a race is still existent before the tribute they paid when they were alive is still handed over to the receivers.
Reply #24 Top
Re: Normal being harder

In regards to diplomacy- with 1.03 i could pay a race
to go to war with another race for 24-35 bc for 50 turns.

In 1.04 it is now usually 50-100 bc for 50 turns.

Could you perhaps ease that requirement? :D

Otherwise no bugs except the ones i mentioned before
and ones other people have mentioned.

and having the default logo instead of logos 11-16
for minor races that pop up in the game MAY be something you didn't want- dont' know if it is a bug
though.

I just noticed this thread, after posting in a different thread about virus elimination. In my latest game (1.04.59) the altairians showed up with virus elimination tech and not Organic Piecing or Genetic Mapping.

I'm also having crash bugs, hard to pin down but I _think_ it is happening when I theoretically finish researching two techs, i.e. almost done with one, hit anomoly for +25%, it's enough to finish the next tech in line as well. This was definately the case once, possibly one of the other times as well.

Great idea to separate the bug threads by version.
