Help, changed entity files and now game will not load.

Ok, downloaded and installed entrenchment.

 

Changed a few entity files but now when trying to load the game it just goes to a black screen and locks up my entire machine.

 

1.) here is where the entity files were moved to once i changed them.

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Entrenchment\GameInfo

2.) I did not do anything to the entity.manifest, from what im reading you have to ADD stuff into the manifest IF you ADD an entity file. I did not add anything, i simply replaced entity files. What gives?

3.) the files were changed from the gameinfo folder that comes with forgetools 3.0

 

I looked through the forum but I cant seem to find an answer to what im doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well first off, it's much safer to use the modding system instead.

Try running SINS in windowed mode. It makes it easier to bail.

You probably made a mistake in a ship definition file, sometimes this causes the game to go into an infinite error..thing, and it never minidumps.

Don't change base assets, make a mod and do it in the mods folder.

the (xp) 'C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.02' (vista/windows7)  'C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.02' folder which is where you should be placing all mods for entrenchment v 1.02.

as you modified the ORIGINAL game files then I suggest opening impulse & verifying your entrenchment installation to repair the damage to the game files.

then going to the mods location above create a new folder and name the folder to suit your taste & perpose of the mod then copy the .manifest files from the program files\sins\entrenchment folder into your new mod file.

also the forge 3 contains the reference files for 1.01 ONLY and several entity files were changed in CRITICAL points between 1.01 & 1.02. if you need the reference files for 1.02 I have an UNOFFICIAL set at http://files.filefront.com/entrenchment+102+refereneexe/;13528674;/fileinfo.html

Ok, my game is stable now, Thank you everyone for your assitance.

 

I have but one small problem left.

 

I made modifications to how many points i get for upgrading capital fleet logistics and some of the base abilities for all three empires capital ships.

The logistics works fine now as I get more capital ships per level. but the capital ships stats for all 3 empires has not changed.

When i enable my mod, it takes the modifications I have made for logistics, but ignores the ones for the capital ships.

Am I missing something?

When you say base abilities do you mean the damage they do and their health, shields, etc or do you mean the actual abilities they have (i.e. the Kol's Adaptive Forcefield)?  If its the first then if you changed the damage, the actual damage numbers in-game on the info card do not exactly reflect the numbers in the files.  It's decided by a number of things.  Any changes to shields, etc should have worked, make sure that you changed the right lines in the file.  If its the second thing then you need to make sure if you made any new abilities you added them to the entity file and the string file (sounds like youre just talking about damage and stuff tho).  If it continues to not work you can try posting the actual file so we can look at it and see if anything is wrong.  Good luck |-)
