Vasari - Atomic Lattice Armor

Quick question, sorry if its been answered but I couldn't find it anywhere. The Vasari's top armor upgrade (above) says that it reduces armor mass (4% and 8% if I remember) along with increasing armor rating. Anyone know what reducing the mass does? Thanks.

Makes them a bit more agile (turning speeds/arcs and such).

Advent don't, and TEC's applies only to its capital ships if I remember right.
