Mine Elimination

Is there a way to target mines or a specific ship for targeting mines?   How do you get rid of enemy mines other than just flying into them and taking some damage?

Scouts have a detection radius around them that allows you to shoot at mines. If you disable the scouts' auto-explore, they stay in the grav well and automatically clear mines. It's not as efficient as microing them along with your main fleet, but it's hands off.

Scout ships are the only ones that can actually detect them, it's been discussed in other threads as well, but the general consensus is that flak frigates or fighters grouped with the scouts are the most efficient means of mine removal.

It'd be interesting if the scouts had a mine clearing ability in themselves.

Vasari- nanite clearers

TEC- explosive charges

Advent- Psionic triggering

They do.

No, what they do is pull them out of phase space. the problem is is that they do not do enough damage to the mines fast enough to destroy them before the scouts are destroyed. What i'm proposing is that they actually get a mine clearing ability rather than just pull the mines out of phase space for other units to destroy. The ideas I had would also coincide with the other abilities of the races.

Mines are suppose to be a pain in the butt. They are not that powerful, LARGE mine fields cost a LOT of ressources, they can be easily avoided and are easy to take down with the right fleet. Anyway IC will be releasing a new patch for Entrenchment soon;

  • Mine detection ranges increased from 4000 to 5000 for all race's scout frigates.
  • Weapon ranges of scout frigates increased to match mine detection range.
  • Advent Homing Mines: Target acquisition range reduced from 5500 to 4500, Can no longer acquire structures and starbases as targets (though their area of effect damage will still damage them).
  • So I say lets wait and see how this turns out before proposing any additional changes to mines or scouts.

    This made me cry.

Ha, no more droping craploads of mines on my starbases, advent.

I think it might be cool to have a special munition you could fire through phase lanes to help clear enemy mine fields.  The special munition would have to be near the very end of the research tree, require a special ship that has little armor and no shields, and does nothing else but fire this munition and it would have to cost for each time it was used.  I'm not talking about a easy cheat total mine annihilation, but a tactical option that doesn't require a massed fleet of kamikazee scouts to clear mines.  Also the munition wouldn't clear all mines, just thin the field so you could actually get ships into the system.  Maybe a missile-type weapon that had an area of effect and damaged mine in a relatively small radius on detonation.

AoE damage will still affect them and you can tell a homing mine squadron to go somewhere, before they deploy (at last check...), so it just makes it more micro on the player's part.

Scouts can shoot the mines. The issue is that the range of detection was such that the scout entered detection range.

As stated, the net patch should address this

yeah, but now they can fall pray to my fighers first, instead of flying 12 drone hosts up to my starbase and droping all your mines...  cheaters... lol

Didja miss a zero there? ;)

But no, I would never do that...
