QUESTIONS!

Im wondering about a great many things:

ALRIGHT! So...Ive got a few basic questions for fans and people that understand the game. I have Supreme Commander. I love that game and love playing online. The only problem is the population. I will fight to be part of it and keep it alive but I want something more large scale. I figure that this game is the answer. Now - here are the questions:

First:

If I like Supreme Commander, Warcraft 3 Online, and stuff like that - Will I like this?

Second:

Is it worth paying $30 for right now? Im actually fighting the impulse to just drop the money right now. I figure that the Entrenchment Add-on is also a must have and thus am not sure if I want to drop $40 total. Should I?

Third:

Im mainly getting pumped because Ive seen a freaking amazing mod that makes this game look brilliant:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihxCkD6eLmw

I see that and change my mind. What do I mean? Well before - when I got the demo - I was totally intimidated by the interface(mechanics, tech trees, etc). I assume its got a steep learning curve. Im still learning Forged Alliance at the moment (lol I bought it like a week ago too, Ah...Oh god money...I shouldnt be spending.)

The question is: if I didnt like it before...will I like it if I give it another go? (Thats what happened today with Warcraft 3)

Fourth:

I was looking at those mods and was wondering: Is BailKnights Graphics mod included in the Volumetric Mod? And if not am I getting the same lighting effects in Volumetic as I am in BailKnights before I like BailKnights a whole TON!

Also will I be able to play online with those mods? I sure as hell hope so they arent giving any advantage besides having one more person jizzing in their pants.

Thanks in advance guys. I dont want to just buy it on a flick of thought. Ive made too many game buying mistakes. lol.

I think this is a good game and there is a downloadable and playable demo offered (Google it).

if u like the demo the chances are high tht u will like the game.

Learning curve, play the tutorials, develop a stragatey against the AI, and start playing online(or skip step 2)

for mods, playing online with mods is nonexistant with me, unless u find people that r willing to play with u. If u dont have entrenchment u cant join entrenchment games, which most of the community has. Also u cant join a non modded game without that mod.

Im not sure about the mods question, tho im sure if u look at the mod pages in the fourm that will get awnsered.

there are some non collectors edition games still out there in stores, for 20$ Instead of 30$.

Hope this awnsers ur questions.

Ps: 30 min is not tht long...

Wait...where would I get the game for $20?????? That would totally seal the deal man. Hmm. I dont think there is a store right now tho. I just checked pricegrabber. And what about 30 minutes? What? And wait...are you saying that I would be shunned online for having the mods? WHAT? That would be sad.

You can play other people with the mods so long as they have them installed and enabled as well.  I'm not certain which if any of the mods you've mentioned work on the current version (1.15), or for that matter Entrenchment.  If you don't get Entrenchment you can't play Entrenchment with people who have it, but you might be able to convince them to play Vanilla with you.

I think, based on my not being able to see any reference to time up above, that Varsi meant that $30 is not that much, and got confused with something else he was doing.

The tutorial is lacking-it's best really to just start up a game against an Easy AI and mess around.

I saw it at gamestop and at walmart i got it for 20(not sure bout gamestop) that may have been a fluke in the pricing, like target selling galaxypack of spore for same price as origional.

No u wouldnt be shunned for haveing mods, i play mods all of the time. There is a nifty feature to enable and disabe ur mods from inside the game, providing that the mod folders are in the right place.Playing online without mods is easy. Although finding someone to play online with mods might be difficult.

30 minutes is not that long to wait for a post

edit: grr he go there first

lol that edit makes no sense but its hilarious. Anyway. Alright Ill look into walmart and/or gamestop. If I could get it for $20 that would be great. I could just be patient. I got the demo - Ill try it out again to make sure. Also - If the mods are just better used on single player whats the point? I mean I love strategy but those mods were so awesome!

Haha. And ya 30 min isnt long at all. Thanks for it. Ill definitely have to get the Add-on. Who doesnt want Star Bases. Is the multi population real high? I expect so. As long as I get lots of people to play with Im totally fine without the mods I guess...lol even if they're insane.

They're not "better used on single player".  You just need to find someone who also has the mods to play against.  Both players need to be playing from identical files, basically.

haha. No I got that part, I just figured that it was a bit retarded that you had to set up the game. I mean I dont mind that at all but if people dont have the graphics mod I am talking about thats kinda sad...lol.

Btw, I started playing the demo. haha. I didnt understand it at all before. Im slowly but steadily learning all the ins and outs. Its really deep and actually quite easy once you know what everything does.

Im now just going to look for the right price. I think Entrenchment has to be part of the package.

How long do small matches last? I dont want to have like 3 hour matches til like summer. If its like 1 star and a few planets how long is the match?

Entrenchment actually allows graphics-only mods to be played without worrying about others having it.

I bought Sins at Wal-Mart for $20 and Entrenchment for $10 through impulse.  It is most deffinitely worth $30.  BTW I believe Game Stop can look in their system and if another of their stores has a game, they will transfer it to any store in the country for free.  So even if it isn't at your local store, it should still be available.

see, i did get it for 20$

the edit was sopossed to say that he got there first, not go there first, srry

game duration is somewhat tough. you can have some games that last for about an hour, but those would be 1on1s. larger games would take more in the range of 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the game and how balanced teams are. large or huge maps can get even longer and go into the proper 4x dimensions, but don't worry, there is a bunch of relatively small maps for larger teams as well.

I mean you said you play supcom online. I never got to play it, but I think this ones not a short, fast game either. so, don't expect half hour matches in sins, you will have to bring some time with you for a game, but it's not that horrible and can usually be settled in a sitting.

lol Oh dont get me started on SupCom. Some of those games...two specifically of mine have gone between 1.5 and 2 hours. It was a ridiculous stalemate. And I was playing on a team too. Ill have to stick to the smaller maps on Sins then. Ill wait til summer for the crazy long ones.

Also - can anyone list the graphics only mods out there?

That's epicly awesome.  Didn't know that.

Not like you need more karma, but have one anyway.
