[Possible fix]Update 1.14.045 - Not Working

After update, game crashes upon loading.

!

The game won't load after the patch is installed and updated!  Help please, 3 of us were playing a game prior to it, saw the messages to log out for the update, so we left to update.  So far 2 of us have updated and tried to load, and all we get is a black screen followed by a message in windows crashing the game (can't see the message, but you hear the distinctive windows beep and you press the spacebar and window's desktop appears).  Please reply if you have an answer or have the same issue.

My puter is an intel quad core, runnin' vista, my friend running the game is on a 'dell' with xp (sorry he's not techie).

I am guessing you might have to uninstall the game to get the update...but don't quote me!

Yeah I unfortunately wrote this the same time as the guy who wrote the mini dump one, here's the link.

You probably have old maps in the galaxy folder or your custom map folder. The uninstall doesn't pick them up because it didn't expect them to be there.

How do you get those custom maps out!

either cut or delete the .galaxy files older than 20 feb 2009 in
C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (32 bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (64 bit)
and
C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(xp)
C:\Users\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(vista/w7)
and if you ca not see tha application data directory click on tools/folder options/ view & set to show hidden files & folders & remove the tick on hide extensions for known file types then click on ok OR do a search of files & directories for *.galaxy and in more advanced options put a tick in search hidden files & folders, then sort by date  and delete any older that the 20th feb 2009

hope this helps
