Is it possible to save and edit a randomly generated map?

Is it possible create a map with the Map Designer, save it, and then edit it with Galaxy Forge? If so, how?

You can. click on the "file" tab up in top left hand corner of your galaxy forge, then go down to "open". This should open up where all the map files are, double click on a file to open it, then away you go just like creating a map from then on.

Ahh, here is where I run into a problem. I create and save the map in Sins. Then I go to Galaxy Forge and open it. WHen I open it, there is no data, no star, no planets, nothing. Any ideas on what I may doing wrong?

ratchit yourinstrctions will only show the original maps & any galaxy forge maps, BUT WILL NOT show the map designer maps which are in the galaxy folder next to the mods folder ie sins options mods show mod path(eg C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\mods) then open the folder in galaxy forge C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\galaxy and you will see the map designer maps, then you can edit it BUT you MUST save the galaxy in the program files galaxy folder ie 'C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy' if you save the map from galaxy forge in the documents & settings galaxy it WILL crash sins.

sorry about being so het up about this but I am trying to prevent some crashes that happened to me

hope this helps

Thanks for the advice ratchit and harpo.

I just tried Harpo's instructions and attempted to open one of the random maps that came with the game. I got the same thing, no solar system. For that matter I just tried openeing several of the maps that came with the game in the C:\Program Files\Stadiock Games\Sins...\Galaxy. They are all blank.

I can create a map that saves in the C:\Docs and Settings\username\Local Settings\App data\Ironclad Games\Sins...\Galaxy folder and open that up in the game. They seem to load and play fine. It just doesn't seem to work the other way around.

I'll keep toying with it. There must be a way.

what version of sins and what version of galaxy forge?

I ask as I have done exactly what you were asking about so I KNOW it works.

I have done it with both sins 1.05/galaxy forge 1.05 AND sins1.13(entrenchment)/galaxy forge 1.1

Sins version 1.0.0.1 and Galaxy Forge 1.0.0.0. Yep, , I think I see the problem. I've been playing a friends copy to see if I want to throw down the money on a new game. I guess I should any up and buy the thing.

If there is a situation where someone can be too frugal, I'm it. I found Sins while looking for something to replace "Pax Emperia" and "Masters of Orion 2" as the game I will go back to for the next ten years. I'll give you a shout when I get the new versions.

Thanks,
Foppio

yes you should buy it, i suggest from impulse/stardock web store with the disc option for another $5 if they still have stock so that stardock get the MOST encoragment to continue IMPROVING this great game, and also you could get the entrenchment also it is a worthwile addition to sins

Ah! yes I see. I thought he was talking about maps created in galaxy forge with random planets /stars etc. I didn't know you could alter the ones created in game. you have helped me out also there is no need to be sorry, but I appreciate your politeness none the less.

And I also indorse the game, also the community here is fantastic and there is allways someone willing to help you out and steer you in the right direction.
