Attn Skinners: Theme Manager Suites Permission

I started pullting together Desktop Themes and making Theme Manager Suites in December of last year and have really enjoyed doing them.  It is just a little hard at times for me to believe that some of these grest Themes hadn't been honored with a Suite.  The WinCustomize Gallery Libraries are full of skins for these outstanding Themes.

The purpose of this thread is to openly ask the skinners in the community for thier permission to use thier Theme Skins to continue making Suites.  I've been going out to WB skinners seeking thier permission but have now decided to ask with a forum thread.  I will search the WC Libraries and include all themed skins for the particular theme that I am pulling together.  Naturally I'm looking for themes that have more than a couple of additional skins, besides the WB and WP.

This is also a great opportunity for some of the skinners to go back and update thier WB's for WB6 and Vista or maybe add some additional themed skins or for some of the other skinners from the community to lead their talent and skill to fill out  thier favorite themes.

I would love to try my hand out at skinning something, but I'm the type of person that has a problem drawing a straight line on a piece of paper using a ruler.  Yup, that bad.  With the release of the new version of Theme Manager I saw my one opportunity to give something back to the community.

So how about it skinners, do I have your permission? :-"

Hmmm, I wonder if this is worded incorrectly, posted in the wrong place or there have just not been any skinners by to read it?:S

I'm not a skinner, Philly, but I don't really understand why 'permission' is needed:

1. You aren't presenting the skin or any of it's components as your own.

2. You haven't modified the original components in any way...so it, in essence, is no different than the originals.

3. The original artists are credited and the download registers on their skin/site/stats.

4. The artists get showcasing of their creations which may not have occupied a prominent place in a gallery in a long time.

So, why do you have to request permission?

You are correct DrJBHL I don't have to as long as I follow what you posted,  it's just the polite thing to do. :sun:

Love that civility, Philly...I thought you meant it was required in order to post a theme....I certainly agree that it is a polite thing to do.  |-) :sun:

Philly. It might be an Idea to rename the thread "Attn Skinners""Permission to use themes for Suite's Requested"

or somthing to that effect, as it stands its not really attention grabbing nor very informative to the content of the thread.

Correct...but I will ask permission if the suite I am putting together solely belongs to one author...for example the Concept Suite I did, 95% belong to Z71. So out of repsect alone, I asked his permission, who knows, Ross could have been doing his own Suite.

Just common courtesy IMO :)

You have my full permission to use any of my work in use to package in a suite for download at Wincustomize.com ;)

@elvee - Please read my reply #4. I thought Philly believed permission was required in order to submit the theme and have it pass moderation...which is apparantly not so.

Even in the case you cite, permission wouldn't be required .... a simple note would do, but I agree it would be a nice touch.

Not sure if you'd really consider me a skinner or not, but you've got mine if you think I am...   :)

We had discussed this amongst the moderators a few months back when the Theme Manager was released and it was felt that as long as the Suites only linked to the skins and didn't actually contain the skin that permissions would not be "required", however, it is ALWAYS preferable to get permission
