"Caprica" news for all the BSG fans

Coming soon to a DVD player near you!

So if you're a BSG fan you should know that the prequel, Caprica, has been in development for a while. If you didn't know that, then you're not a true BSG fan and should be ashamed of yourself :P

Anyway, news came out today that before the 2010 TV broadcast of Caprica, an unrated and uncut DVD release will be out on April 21, 2009:

Considering the level of suck the show had reached in the last year, I'm not sure if I care.

(And seriously, are their writers sadists or did they just want to test how annyoing the could make the President and Adama? I would have been much better if the Cylons would have succeded in wiping them out eventually...) -_-

I don't think you're going to see anyone agreeing with you on any of that. Maybe you reached a "level of suck" that didn't allow you to appreciate how good battlestar has been. It has it's flaws but there's no other TV show that comes close, and very very few movies.

BSG got boring. It used to be my ritual to watch it. Then, it became full of drama and not enough progress.  But still pretty good series overall.

Yeah, it got a little meh towards the end of season 3. But season 4 (both the first and second halves) picked the show back up, I think.

I'm very much enjoying the second half of season 4.. the proverbial "sh*t hitting the fan" everywhere!

I watched BSG from the NBC premier on, and I loved the show... but at some point you have to look back and say, yes... yes in fact the show has entered "the suck". I'm not looking forward to having to watch the last episodes... or it's soap opera spinoff.

I agree with him. The sheer amounts of idiocy in that show is staggering. Scary, even. If find myself constantly annoyed by illogical premises and the most retarded of reasonings behind any variety of decisions.

It should be said that I've yet to see all of the second part of season 4, since.. well.. it's not out yet.

I still watch it, because the show has -some- merit, the story overall is pretty cool. But damn, there's absolutely no logic in the actions of.. well.. anyone. If this was only one or two persons, like Gaius Baltar it'd be ok. I mean, he's a coward and an opportunist - he's not supposed to be logical or always make sense.

Other decisions are made under duress and chaos - desperate moves. But after whatever spur of the moment sparked 'situation X', the issue is never raised again until a moment of conveniance arrives.

Bah, I say! Bah!

The mini-series, Season 1 and 2, and also Razor movies are good I say. I only really watch a Science-Fiction show if the plot is good or if the ships catch my eye which BSG did for me in the beginning and now i just watch to follow how it will end and the ships still catch my eye.

Razor

I don't know about you, but I loved the first war battle with young Bill in Razor.

The battle of Galactica and Pegasus versus Base Stars and Resurrection ship (in the aptly named Resurrection Ship pt2) in Season 2 was awesome, as well as the Nebula battle in the season 4 opener.

The New Caprica battle was great too, but it made me :( for the Pegasus loss.

Either way, the FX guys for the show really need to write a book on How To Do Space Battles Right. :P

I'll agree with Annatar here. If it's one thing BSG did right, it was the science of the fiction. Or the fiction of the science, if you will. It didn't start talking pseudo-scientific babble about phasers, laz0rs and frequencies. It felt very "real" in the battles, although it's almost silly compared to "high" sci-fi to assume that humanity hasn't gotten farther over several thousand of years, even if they started at near-cavemen status when they got there (Over 4000 years past -our- level of technology? Wth?).

Something I found very refreshing was that spaceships actually moved how I'd -expect- spaceships to move. That is, NOT like planes. No "Pull up, pull up, pull up!". Things like inertia, momentum and the laws of physics actually applied! Like in some battles, when they flew straight forward, killed the engines, then turned around to shoot at whatever was chasing them, carried forward in the same direction as before by momentum.

I found that pretty neat.

Yeah, definitely :P There's also a fair share of strafing.. and you always see the thrusters firing off whenever they do the maneuvers.

The only odd thing about the battles in the show I found is that the Raiders carried nukes. In the pilot (the miniseries), Razor, and a few select episodes it's the Raiders that always launched the nukes and the Base-stars only had conventional missiles. But this begs the question - why wouldn't they fit all their raiders with nukes, or you know, at least more than one? :P I know the raiders also have "experience" and are re-downloaded like the skinjobs, so maybe they just give nukes to the best of the best?

Who knows..

Cool. I didn't really like the last episode of BSG... I'm kinda afraid to watch tonight's. I liked  Tigh and Adama :(

I agree with Annatar as well. I love the show and yes it got a little slow at points but the reason for it was to develop the characters more to show the human side and all the idiosyncrasies that we as people are culturally programmed to carry with us for better or worse.

I'm stoked to hear there will be an early DVD release prior to TV. You just know this is a money grab in response to the millions of downloads of the TV broadcasts.

I loved the way it ended :P Last stand-style!

The one good thing I've liked about BSG is that the lines of good and evil are blurred.  Even in reality good & evil aren't consistant, one side would think the other is evil and vice versa.  Constantly in BSG they are mixing up who you may be rooting for.  That is one thing that ST & SG lacked...realism in theology.  In those series, you knewwho was the good guys every time and those good guys won every episode.  Really, what's the entertainment in that?  Every time I watched McGuyver I wanted that bomb or such to go off before he did his thing....like the final episode I beleive...

Bah, IMHO they should have been right up near the door for when it opened a crack, to stick the gun thru and spray the hallway with bullets, instead of firing at the hole from several feet away, inviting a grenade toss.

Sure, but the gun-in-the-hole trick goes both ways then. ;)

Bah. It was only a flashbang. They couldn't end up killing the only character I actually like and find remotely believable.

Eh, lets try to get this back on the Caprica track.  Sorry for the derailment.

It will be interesting to see things pre-BSG...but i'm unsure how well I'll like it.  There is something about the human struggle in BSG that has held me to that show.  I guess I cannot demonize something I have yet to watch though, and thus I'll give it a slot on the DVR when the time comes.

BSG FTW! There are flaws (Boomer/Athena being number eight + Final Five, just to mention one XD) but i really like it. I have watched the first season (as example) like... 6? 7 times? (english and spanish) Go Helo&Athena, go!!!

I wonder how this Caprica will go.

BSG started out really good and season 3 got a little boring.

The 2nd half of season 4 has been good so far.

Tonights episode was pretty good.  The quarm finally showing some backbone.   I do agree with what others have said about bluring the lines of good and evil and whos right and whos wrong.  They did a pretty good job with Gaeta.

This is how much I want to know before a show in threads that aren't directly related to that very show:
