Family business sucks

Yes, family business sux. And i'm not talking about having a familial business like owning a shop with a cousin, or a partnership between brothers (although that could suck just as much...).
I'm talking about the local expression 'family business' that we have in Vanuatu.
I will you use my 20 year old cousin as as example. Since she was little she has loved school. She was always eager to learn stuff, do homeworks, study, study and study. She went to school in Santo (a northern island) till grade 6. She passed her exam with flying colors. And was sent to school in Port Vila, the capital. And that meant alot to her. So she went to highschool there. Comes year 12. The students are told that after the final exam, a scholarship to New Caledonia will be awarded to the 10 best pupils. Of course she worked hard, and she was 3rd.
That's when family business comes in the picture. None of the 10 best students got the scholarship. Instead 10 less bright students got them. The reason? This one is the niece of the Prime Minister, that one is related to the Minister of Education, that other one is the son of the manager of the National bank, or whatever... As a result, we never get the elite we could get, because of some people's dishonesty.
And that's what we call 'Family Business' here. And it sucks big time.
Today my cousin is workin part time in the finance ministry and takin part time studies in a management school. It isnt as good as what she was aiming for. But she is one of the best. She will achieve whatever she puts her mind into...
