I can't help but ask

Now that Obama is now President Obama and was singing the National Anthem at the end of his Inauguration, do all these people, who we once heard about claiming would never sing or recognize the National Anthem because it speaks of a time when slavery still existed in the US, still won't recognize or sing the National Anthem?

I just can't help but wonder how will this and other kinds of racist situations will be affected now that we have had our first Black man as President of the US. I feel this is a legitimate question and something that should be spoken of in the hopes it can help change racism in the US for the better.

I dont blame anyone for not singing it.  Only an Opera Diva can sing it at anywhere near well, and then it still sounds like a croak or 2.

But the hypocrites?  They will probably break their vows this once (well, and then the next tiem, and the next time, and the next time, and the next time, .............................)

LOL, most likely. I honestly can't wait to see how some of my Black co-workers will act now that he is President. I really wanna see if that whole "because I'm Black" and "the man is bringing me down" crap stops or at least gets toned down.

So our next step is to have a Latine for President. Mayeb I am gonna start molding my older so for the opportunity.

No Charles, they'll all run around singing other National Anthems because they are not Americans....people say stupid things in the heat of the moment when they are upset, you can't honestly expect them to do what they say!

So what you are saying is that now that Obama is President that Black people are no longer upset and will now accept a song that was writing about a time when Black people were slaves and does not (in their mind) necessarily talk about their land of the free and home of the brave?

This is a legit question. Either we are all Americans or we each carry passports when traveling from State to State stating what country of origin you are from. I don't care about skin color, country of origin, financial situation, historical background, etc. We all equal according to our Constitution, Obama as President is more than enough proof of that. I think it's time we do some real change and not the kind Obama speaks of. I mean the kind where we, as people, wake up and smell the coffee and realize that while we concern ourselves with our petty differences in this country, there are people out there color blind, culture blind, country or origin blind etc who will kill us all the same simply because we are either Americans or just happen to be there when the bomb goes off, when the plane is crashed, etc.

This is a sore spot for me. No matter how bad some folks think they have it, there is always some place on earth much worse. My blood boils when I see someone not respecting the flag or sitting down for the national anthem. Everyone has the option to leave if they think they can do better. On your worse day ever, think back to those guys, the former prisoners of war, getting off the plane and kissing the ground after the Vietnam War, then ask yourself if your country is really that bad.
