I don't get this game what so ever

I don't get this game what so ever

Ok I've just got the game so I'm new, but fairly experienced with RTS. Played Star Wars Empire at War no problems what so ever all the way up to hard. This game really takes the cake though. I'm on easy and can not seem to make head nor tails of wtf is going on. So I'm trying to beat the very first small map on easy, been at it for over 3 days now and still no luck.

1. Pirates: Raid after raid after raid after raid. Why? Can you disable this bloody game mecahnic because it really is killing any type of enjoyment I have for this game. I've read up on a number of strategies and still no joy. I've tried scouting for their base and never can find it, so I don't know where they are coming from. I build Cap ship first (Advent) but it can not go up against a fleet of 10+ pirates which is the ave number I get on a raid. This alone is killing the game for me. So some people have said get defence up. Well which planet do I defend? And most importantly how the hell can I get enough resources to build any kind of decent defence which dosen't require me for ever bloody stopping what I'm doing with expansion and pull everything back to kill the pirates. I can not STRESS how bad this game machanic is and how much it is destroying any will I have to play the game.

2. Resources: Can it be any bloody slower. Its a crawl ATM even when I try to colonise and make sure to increase pop cap first to not get the drain. I don't get it. I can have 3 planets and 2 asteriods with full pop cap and mines, and still nothing, resources remain at a crawl.

3. Tech Trees: Once again all my options are bloody limited. Build defence against bloody pirates, all my resources go into having to tech for these things. Try and make ships better in defence and offence, then no resource for base defence.

4. Game Time: ATM I'm playing on a small map for a hour and a half and getting no where. Is this the ave. time for a SMALL map?

Please don't bother to respond by saying well this is easy. It may be for you but it is not for me. If anything HOW CAN I DISABLE PIRATES!!!!

Thanks

I find pirates annoying early game, but they are very useful midgame. This is because you can use them to level up your capital ships.

That said, I usually play with pirates turned off since it feels to random to me.

1-1.5 hours is usual for small maps. The 'Huge' maps have taken me 20+ hours to play. The thing about Sins is, it is meant to take a long time. Much of this time (especially when Entrenchment is out) will be spent watching glorious fleet battles... *tears brought to eyes*

You can turn off pirates once you get the patch. Its in game options. Pirates are pretty lame once you figure out where they are going to hit. The scary part about them the first time is that you don't know so you have to build around everywhere.

Standard build once you get 1.12 in usual game maps:

Buy crystal, update infrastructure, build capital ship factory, queue your cap ship. Usually progenirator for advent, marza for tec, and Evacuator for vasari. Build crystal extractor. Queue scouts. Usually 2-3. In small maps, this should allow you to explore the whole map. And once you see your cap ship come out, scuttle your factory. This is because the first cap is free, and subsequent cap ships are going to require a lot of resources and research.

Play advent first to get used to standard builds. Use your colonizer cap ship to speed up your expansion. Please note that any colonizing bonuses (like reduced costs) takes time to kick in (because the ship is sending down resources to the planets, which takes time).

If playing vasari, get one military lab and research assailant to increase your firepower. Assailants, like all long range ships (the third one in frigate factory) have the most firepower costwise. Your scouts can build extractors in neutral areas like magnetic clouds/gas giants where you can't colonize but you see asteroids that you can mine. Take them, you will need it. Vasari is very resource heavy. The egg is nice with colony.

Note: this is going to be the standard. Researching ships is way more important in warfare outside of repair bays.

With tec, its pretty much like Advent except your LRF is at 2nd military tier and your trade is at 2nd civillian tier. If you see immediate threats, go millitary, if you are safe in your immediate vicinity, go civillian and economy boom with trade posts.

Edit: Of course, always build your extractors quickly.

That should speed up your game quite a bit.

I'm sorry but that's the kind of post which really gets on my nerves.

Every single aspect of what you're complaining about is amendable through the game options - pirates, resource speed, game speed - everything.

Read the damn manual, or at least click the options button, before writing 5 pages of ranting.

And I don't care if it's a bit patronising but they're only bloody pirates, they're an annoyance, not a game-breaker.

If you had paid attention to his post instead of your nerves, you would find out that he had trouble updating the game.

Not to someone who doesn't understand the mechanization of how they attack. The omnious PIRATE RAIDERS ARE ON THE LOOSE! will psyche you out when you don't know what will happen.

@ TAIKO  --  I know you said you've been playing TEC, but there is another possibility with Advent...

Once you've gotten past the initial colonization push, and have about 5 or 6 planets, you could just crank out Military research posts.  Then, once you've got about 8 of those (I think), you can research the option for your Cap ships to automatically earn experience.  (Forgot the name - I'm at work right now.)  IIRC, it doesn't have a prerequisite.  That will easily take your ships up to level 4, no cash or combat required - just a little bit of time for XP to pile up.  At that point, pirates are almost laughable, and you can keep or scrap the research posts - whichever you want.
