Will JU survive?

The current consensus seems to be that once this election is over, a lot of blog sites will cease to exist, because people will have nothing left to talk about.

Will JU fall prey to this phenomenon?  Are we really so politically charged that once the results are in we all shut up and fade away?

I don't think so.  I think that the people here are multi-faceted.  I think that there is more to us than our political persuasions.  I think the the JU community is strong now, has been strong, and will be stronger after all's said and done election-wise.

Besides, there's still the results to dispute.....:)

Heck, I don't even post on the political threads for the most part. I hope the site doesn't go away or else I'll have to start a blogger account and never get read... (Oh, wait, that has already happened!)

I doubt it. A blog or 2 may expire, but we lived before the election and we will live after it.

Honestly, I can't wait for the election to be over. Once that happens we will no longer have "Kerry is ugly" blogs and "Bush likes women's perfume" blogs....It will be refreshing to see other stuff around here!

That's the attitude!  We will survive!!  And we will be better than before!

EEK! Nooooo!!!  I can't go without my daily fix of Chip!

I think you're right, Miggy.  We'll still have the 'if _____ had got elected, we wouldn't be doing this..'

As long as my husband has shirts and you have ideas, I'll be here.

I'd better get thinking then.....!

Amen to that!

Me too...there's plenty more garbage where this comes from.....

Me too......I'm beyond saturation point.  Way beyond it.  Now I just want to see who the next Prez is going to be, and get on with it.

Me three. I voted just over a week ago and have been accosted by phone calls and door-to-doormen ever since and smugly say (as I want to punch them), too late, I'm done, buh-bye. I want to go to sleep and wake up in December.

I can't wait until it's all over! then i will get to learn more about everyone....even though i've had a blog since june, it seems like i hardly know anything about anyone ,except who they are voting/voted for.

Even after the elections the political crap errr I mean discussions will continue. Regardless of who wins, there will be the "He's such an evil idiot" blogs along with the "He's such a great guy blogs" to feed the political garbage, errr I mean discussions.

Out of the rubble of this election, I shall arise yet again, unscathed as a contributer to this site.(I hate politics anyway, these last few months have been hell....so much boring politics)

Of course JU will survive, and yes, you're correct regarding the debate after the election.

I think it will be a refreshing change around here. The influx of political threads is often just too much for me. There may be a few bloggers who diminish, but I think many will find other things to talk about. I look forward to it.

Me too.  I feel altogether dull and unenlightened when Draginol et al get together and debate.......it's overwhelming sometimes.  I dip my foot into the political pool sometimes, but not very often...

Thanks!

It's not all boring, at least I don't think so.  I've learnt a lot from listening and reading and watching.  And, it's spurred me to pursue a citizenship so i can legitmately vote next time around.

Hell, no, Dharma, we aren't going anywhere. There's that whole revolution to prepare for, eh?

Nah. It may be true for the sites that grew up around the election, but JU's creation and popularity has never really hinged on politics. The closer to the election we got, the more there was of it here, but in the end if you take away all the election posts there is still a very healthy amount of interaction.

The troll population will go waaaaaaay down, too. For places like Democratic Underground, which counts on trolls for the majority of their population, it may be a problem. Here, though, I think a lot of peopel will feel more comfortable wandering back in once the rabid few have gone on to play Grand Theft Auto, or kick puppies, whatever it is they do during non-election years...

I'm personally looking forward to the end of this election for a few reasons...

1) I'm not American and I'm not political. Hence immense boredom encountered when on this site currently

2) Without as many political posts there will be more people blogging about other things (let's hope). This is always a source of inspiration to me as well as a great form of entertainment. I believe the more we get back into 'normal' blogging, the more of these types of articles will be created - kind of a self perpetuating cycle. I imagine that any of the bloggers that leave will be those who no longer have anything to say politically. Or no one left to fight with!

3) Even if people aren't political and don't write about politics, the atmosphere on this site has been completely different in the last couple of months. The sense of community is still here, it's just smothered by other, more pressing, issues. JU Has been so great for me as it provides company when there is none available in my 'real world' as I'm sure it does for many others. With lots of people not blogging as much as they used to this comraderie has died slighty. Time for it to come back!

We'll all be here til Brad kicks us off, Dharma. I wouldn't be too worried!

We will survive Dharma... and we might even start getting friendlier with each other.
