Capture the Flag (who would be interested in a capture the flag with ships?)

OK! First off, just to know how many of you would be interested in a Capture the Flag modeééé

I.e an indestructable vessel which you have to bring back to your base to win a point!

Concept is easy:

2 homeworlds

1 totally symetrical map with in center of it, a unknown vessel names "The Target" which you must bring back to base

3 types of vessels:

-Destroyer (expensive but kills)

-Scout (Fast, but lightly armed)

-Capturer (has the capture ability)

Maybe add 4th:

-Inhibitor (expensive, no weapons, slows enemy ships in radius)

 

Except for homeworld, all other planets have 1 extractor which you can capture in order to gain 1) extra ressources 2) a map of the gravity well and its activity.

 

So what does everyone think?

Interested...or dead idea?

Could work, but may be difficult to do. I think it would be fun.

Instead of a seperate flag-capturer ship, make it so that any ship can capture the flag except Strikecraft and they cannot shoot while they have the flag.

 

 

Here's a few more ideas:

 

How about a "capture the starbase" option in which a neutral starbase is in the centre of the map.

Cannot be destroyed, but can be captured. Once captured a 10 minute timer is triggered.

If the starbase still belongs to the player at the end of the countdown timer, then the player wins. If the other player captures it, then the countdown timer starts again.

 

How about another game mode in which each player starts off with a capship. The player would lose if this Flagship was destroyed.

we can't mod the win condition i think unless you mak an habilitie that destroy the enemy worlds at the end of the count down or when the flag reach your world

Well for the starbase idea...it would be fun! But until the forgetools for entrenchement are delivered, I personnaly prefer to stay away from entrenchement modding! (to avoid fututre crapload of errors!).

As for countdown, I dont think its possible at this point to trigger a countdown!

Or maybe, the capture ability has a 15 min on delay ability which triggers another ability which would destroy all opossing ships,etc...something like that!

Just thinking at this point!

I would LOVE this kind of game mode. I used to play Star Trek Armada doing this all the time. It was a lot of fun, and I would love to see it in Sins.

And after I'll tackles 'King of the Hill' mode, as well as Survival of the Fittest,...etc...!

as long as we're all suggesting cool mods, how about the whole line of halo mods? you know, ctf, king of the hill, and for slayer its a normal ffa... but you start with a certain amount of a variety of ships ON THE SAME HOMEWORLD with NO EXIT PHASE LANES!! Goes against everything sins was made for, but these are all TC mods anyway*_*

I say go for it. I think a stationary object would be better suited for something like this (let it be a starbase or something else), but its up to you. Good luck with it.

But having it a stationnary item would turn this into a "King of the Hill' sort of game, whilst the whole purpose of Capture the flag is to capture the flag (in this case a slow moving vessel) and by using tactics and diversion, bring it safely home!

Fair enough, though all players should know where that slow moving vessel is, even if its captured. Good luck with those buffs though (give details if you can make a game over one)... ;P

Well, my method was to add one or two asteroids in each grav well (except for homeworlds, all other planets are black holes or asteroid belts), and you use your capture vessel (another one since you do have ONE frigate factory only) to capture those extractors which will give you a "look' into the grav well.

But as you say, Ill have to find a way to sort of 'Highlight' the captureable ships mouvements! :) Sounds like a challenge!

Their still up and running dont worry, just w8ing for entrenchement until I do the final conversion of everything and add the few remaining items!

But as of now, Capture the Flag, was a childhood game that I used to play soooooooooooooo much, so trying to bring it back to the awesome game that SoaSE is would be insane!

Imagine starting your Sins game and instead of having the usual free for all, team battle...you have new modes, like Capture the Flag, Fortress Assault,etc...now wouldnt that bring a new dimension :)

It will be as active online as it has followers willing to test it out! And so far, Im more than pleased with the amount of replies I got on this thread :)!

Who knows with some string pulling and lots of support, we could probably ask devs a way of adding new gaming 'modes' into Sins! Might take some work programming it....but hell, were the ones actually designing the modes :)! So its a win-win situation for them!

They add something people have been asking for sooooo long, and in exchange they get a bunch of new gaming variants! Paradise at last!!! :D

Well....hum...what could I have you do!

1) I have the basic starter map (just need to add 1 crystal/metal extractor on each asteroid belt) and change starting files and all to only have one structure (frigate factory) at start and not be able to build anything else. SO BEWARE IF WE BUST YOUR STRUCTURE! Ship health and damage will be dropped accordingly to give the Factory the impression of God-Like structure...only takeable through massive force (20+ ships). 

2) I have on paper the ship stats of the 3 primary vessels (Tank, scout, capturer)

Thinking about it, the only "coding" I would need help on is a "marker" on the capture ship...sort of it being visible wherever it is by both teams! OR, have 2 extractors in each grav well, and have each team start of with 1 in each! That way at start, you could see the entire map, and everything going on, and it would add flavor to actually have to, as the game progresses, take the opposing extractor in order to gain extra ressources and deny the view of a certain grav well to opposing team?!

That sound easier to do? Or do we try tagging?

NEW idea.....concerning the issue regarding END OF GAME! Ie. how to "score" a point!

I was thinking about giving each player a Neutral Novalith cannon in their gravity well. Only way to cap that planetmodule, will be through the Flags ability!

As such, it would emphasize the point that if you manage to get your  ship to port, it would activate its capture....give you the novalith and a SECOND ability will give the Novalith the antimatter required to be launched..thereby giving the opoosing player valuable time to stage a "rescue" mission.

If Flag stays to long with the Novalith, Novalith becomes operational and the player may fire it on his adversary! Moment it hits...its game over!!!

 

So how do you all like this concept?

If I get approval, I'll start work on it! Mioght have a rough "test trial" tonight if all goes well and at good speed (should)!

:)  a ship with a "capture ability"  sounds very very cool, can i bribe you to tell me how you did it?  It sounds neat, i could make one and run around capturing everything!!!  :)   Well, at least like 7DS, it would be cool for extra ships that could be planted across the system. 

Thank you and let me know how the mod is going, want some help on it?  But you are probably better than me anyway, but i could do something.  :)  Maybe Cheer from the Sidelines!!!!  Yay!!   Go Go Go!!!!   :)

I'll see what I can do! Got classes ALL day tomorrow :( sniff... so I suspect friday will see the start of the mod.

For now I have the basic map!

 

As to how I'm planning on making the Flag trigger the Novalith...well we all know that Novalith = Planetmodule. So I'll take the domination ability and simply change its target to PlanetModule instead of Frigate!

Though that will mean that you can cap the enemy base instead of your ship, itll be an extra "spice", another way of winning!
