Timing of Second Cap Ship

Timing of Second Cap Ship

I’ve been viewing my Multi player replays and have noticed some people immediately build a second Cap Ship. (Well as soon as the needed requirements are met)

This goes against the commonly used starting strategy of scuttling the Cap factory once your 1st ship is built.

I tried this strategy of building a second cap against some comps and it appears to work against them.

Given a 3v3 or 4v4, what’s the general opinion on this strategy?

And what should the second Cap ship be for each race?

p.s. Does anyone else have problems with viewing replays. In 3v3 or 4v4 replays, most of them have a player or two’s actions not recording. He will just not develop like he did during the game?? Am I the only one?? I've asked this on the technical form without any response.

Well that would be interesting. I planned ont esting it but never got around to it.  I just assumed as most abilities do not affect strike craft in the slightest, same was true for Vengence.  I will test this if Cykur gets around to testing it with me :(

Tested. The bombers that attacked my Rapture got spanked.

Yes i tested it too, it works BUT it's not great. Reason for it is that people use fighters, if they used bobmers that be great.  When fighters target your cap they will deal little damage per squadron, so they will take little damag ein return.  It works better when the fighters target a light armored target like Illumiantor. BUT once again it sucks because despite the damage the fighters take back is increased by 200%, the illumiantor will die after one volley and you are out 75 antimatter :(  Think this thing needs aoe effect to be useful on frigates.

Yeah Vengeance is not good on frigates. It's just good for making your cap a less appealing target for focus fire and bombers.

If Vengeance would be applied before mitigation AND would retaliate Phase Missiles and Nano Disassemblers the Rapture could even be a good ship against the standard Egg+Assailants setup that eats Motherships for breakfast.

I'm in a 8 way single player game and i have 4 Cap ships. 4 TECvs.4 Advent. i have a massive fleet that i was planning to take to a world with a valuable artifact. i had to evac after major onslaughts from from 2 factions and when i tried to retake it i had wasted the surface, but an allie took it! and some how the advent started "purging" one of my planets that was an extermly important choke point. when i was just finishing jumping in to the well, another ally took it. no doubt, having 4 caps makes me the most powerful faction, what should i do about this? x_x

P.S. having a level 6 Sova in your fleet is a valuable asset!}:)

It's very dependent on oposition and map

on a small map with very aggresiv players you will be dead before you get it up and running, on larger maps with less aggresion it is better im most cases

TEC- If you choose the marza as 1'st cap, 2'nd should be a dunov or a kol

Advent - (this is the race that benefits most from caps imo) the radience is most likely the best 2'nd cap -- the goal is to get the holy trinity up

Vasari - their carrier should come 2'nd ( vasari is the least dependent on caps thou')

selling the cap factory is mostly used in rush games if nieter side uses a rush getting a 2'nd cap up is imo better than the marginal boost you get for selling the factory

You mention the Trinity, what is the Trinity for the Advent?   I have heard the term before but dont know which ships are being referred to.

Thank you,

Trinity = Radiance, Rapture, Progenitor

Radiance uses Animosity -> enemy focus fires on Radiance

Rapture uses Vengeance -> Radiance retaliates focus fire damage

Progenitor uses Malice -> Retaliated damage is propagated for more damage

It's not as effective as you'd expect.

There is actually another holy trinity but weaker its used primarily for raiding.

2nd Trinity Progenitor, Rapture, Halycon

Progenitor uses malice -> deals more damage

Halycon uses amplify energy aura -> deals more damage

Rapture uses concentration aura and vengenace -> shit load of damage

combine this with some carriers and other frigrates you have a powerfully damaging armada.

or Even better you can do what some people are doing and go for

The Holy Quadrinity

Progenitor, Rapture, Radiance, and Halycon
