Confused on orange ships/bonuses

So, looking thru the manual, and playing around in the game this past weekend after picking it up in the fire sale, I think I have most things figured out so far. Except the orange ships/modules. Pigamar modules and Rapid/Invul/Somethingorother Hulls come to mind. Sometimes different visuals, but more significantly, they always have some kind of bonus attached to them, that doesn't seem to work. Say +15 to missile units. Do these just not change the numbers on the module, or are they broken? And where do these items even fit in? They still have a racial attachment, but otherwise I don't understand their placement.

I'm not quite sure eitherm but I think they are comparable to magic items in Diablo, i.e. they give you a bonus to a specific trait. The Invulnerable housing sereis for example always give you a bonus to the protection field. So if you have a 5% shield and a bonus of +5 you will in effect have 10%  shield.

Confirmed they do on that russian fan site. I guess the numbers just don't show on the screen (for weapons at least, not sure about others). and "units" should be read as a + damage modifier. Which makes since, as added units to energy or fragment weapons really didn't make sense.  ^_^
