Vista 64 wont burn cd's or dvd's

Anyone got a tip. I've changed the drive, starts to burn, then after a couple of files, getting an error. Tried various burning software and brands of cd / dvd's.

Have Itunes installed, could it be the gear drivers that causes this. If I uninstall Itunes, will the gear drivers be removed ?

You should check and see what other DRM you have installed. :puke:

In situations like this you should post the error or at least explain the gist of it. Otherwise, there's really too little information to go on. Also, have you tested burning a different set of files?

i would check that i had the latest firmware and drivers for my dvd/cd drive. what type of disk are you trying to make? music, dvd movie, vcd? if you just need to burn data files to a disk alot of times you can right click the dvd drive in "my computer" and there should be  an option to enable "drag and drop" burning, which will enable you to just drage the files you want onto the disk itself and burn them that way. also might want to check your reigion coding on your drive and the burn speeds youre trying to use should match what the disk and your drive are capable of. but first thing i would go to the computer manufacturers site and download all the most recent updates for all my hardware including your bios.

End of Spartan's quote

drm wouldnt matter in the case of burning a file to a disk, more commonly you run into problems when youre trying to "rip" from copyright protected media. or trying to play drm restricted media on an unauthorized device.

Perhaps you should try looking up the error code? Other than that Microsoft have a debugger tool you can download to figure out what is happening when things in general go wrong.

Having eliminated the software, the file, and the medium, you're left with drivers, firmware and hardware as the possible problems I would say.

Does the drive play CDs and DVDs properly?

Yes I've done all the basic stuff,( not reinstalled vista ;> )I know that Itunes installs some drivers for burning in Itunes, I think they are the problem.Just wanted to know if someone has fixed this in another way than unistalling Itunes. I can always burn the stuff i need on another machine, the thing is , this iritates me more than the problem of not being able to burn cds

Have you tried uninstalling the DVD from Device Manager (or the Vista equivalent, as I have XP), then rebooting so Vista reinstalls the driver fresh?

Guess the next step is to edit out from register all traces of the gear drivers, only need itunes to be installed , use winamp for adding files to my ipod
