What would the interior of your custom ships look like?

I could have probably posted this in the GalCiv forums, but I put here just in case.  One of the things I love about GalCiv II is the custom ship creation.  And as a side note, I love the ship designs in Sins.  But we rarely if ever get to see how they would look or be made on the inside.  What kind of bridges, accommodations, etc.

What would your interior ship designs look like?  Has anyone ever created any, like with a CAD program?  My ships would have their own arcades    Who needs the Holodeck when you can play the old arcade classics like Virtual On.  There are lots of examples of good interior ship designs, that served as menu interfaces back in the day.  I don't know why we don't see that more often.  That idea was used in games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Freespace and Wing Commander.  Would have been cool for Sins or GalCiv.

It depends on the function. If I would have a ship designed for combat, prepare for a very clean, straight and metallic design. A lot of places that lead right to the hangar, the barracks, cantina and armory would be very close to each other. The only place that would not be as accesible as the rest would be the bridge.

For an non-combat ship, I would make it very uhh, fluffy :P Red carpets, red couches, red curtains, wooden doors. I am thinking of a ship about twice the size of the millenium falcon from star wars.

By the way, if you like to design the interior of your ship, you should really give star wars galaxies a go :) Ships are cheap (well, the less usefull ones are) and the furniture can be bought from player shops. They however, are, compared to the ship, pretty expensive :P

You could also create your own furniture (note: You don't actually design it, but rather choose the colors and blueprint) and ships.

I'd have a big map of the galaxy on the wall where you color in the planets one-by-one as you visit them all.

It sure would have an 'On Screen - ala Star Trek' panel wide enough to witness my enemy's best blown up to smithereens. The troops module would feel more like a plane row of seats, though.

Hundreds of colorful Dels flashing everywhere and the occasional buttons to hit when firing weapons.

Captain's chair, too.

But, since i'm more of an XCom fan -- i could certainly see some regular UFO Floorplans with doorways & anti-grav elevators in some key areas.

Yea, the ship designs in X-COM: Apocalypse (haven't played the other ones) are interesting. Instead of being cluttered with extras, they seem to consist mostly of breeding space and a small bridge (the UFOs I've encountered atleast).

I've actually done a rough starship exterior/interior in SketchUp. >.>

It's a good tool for it, but it's ten times easier to build from the inside out as opposed to the outside in (cough). :P

idk I'd probably just have a bunch of computers to run the ship, if got into a fight have someway to plug my brain into the ship so it'd be easier to take out the enemy and run the ship probably would just walk around with a bunch of wires running from my head to control everything on the ship the lazy ship. have a huge screen too for T.V.

That would be cool but i would like to have a small chipset behing my ear thats small that controls the whole ship wireless so could be off the ship and still control it if i get into a sticky situation.

Gues what mine is.

Its a blend between Vassari and Advent architecture style, its nime times the size of the Eclipse, 9000% better mobility and of course it has a super weapon plus 500 hundred advent bomber squadron, plus its a ship wiithin a ship so if the outer ship gets destroyed I have another ship which i 3 times the size of the Eclipse and still the super weapon all controled with wireless chipset. The chipset only controls the enngines, super weapon, comm, hyperdrive, and some of the megaturbolasers.

Mine is a really big, grey sphere.  without exhaust ports.  and the ORIGINAL superweapon.  all slaved to my heads-up display on my fighter.

my fighter:   modified Mark VII Viper, with larger engines, stronger kinetic energy weapons, and three nuclear/ conventional missile hardpoints under each wing, and reactive shield generator, and a EMP generator (larger engines take up some of the cargo space)

Lol, my interior design would be just a hallway in vacum. Then get my men to where more advanced version of our space suits in order to run the ship. They have a crew quarters of course with a pressurized interior, but anything outside that they have to where a spce suit. In this case, no matter how many holes you poke in the hull, or how many rooms are open to space your men are still able to work anywhere on the ship.
