Hotseat option

Hotseat option

I have tried to find this but:

a- there is nothing about it.

or

b- i'm blind (or need to put on the glasses). In which case i would like a link and/or quote.

Ok, so there is multiplayer. So maybe some kind of PBEM (spelling?). What about Hotseat? Not sure about how does the battle exactly work so not sure if it could be possible afar from "auto-resolve" realm. I still remember fondly the times when i could play Lords of the Realms or Heroes of Might and Magic II in Hotseat mode with my friends...

so...    how did this get from hot seat to OS options?

While we are at it, why not release for a console as well... like the wii because it has a pointing device.

Wii? wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

I could go for that! However the processor probably not powerful enough.  I love that console. Great for kids. As for hotseat I would love it. I could show the kids how to play My eldest daughter is turning 10 this week-end. Time to learn strategy!

I was mostly joking about the wii (though I would like to see more strategy titles on the wii)

you waited until she was 10, eh?  I guess thats about right.     I plan to get my kids playing strategy games the moment they turn 7 (it says 7+ on the box of most of my board games, so that is where I'm doing it)   I want my kid to learn the game 'diplomacy' at a very young age.    If it clicks, they will either grow up to be a genius, some sort of con-artist (needs to be able to read people), or a socially deprived person.   Either way I'm sure I will be proud of them.

I have a Wii... but no console version should be considered otherwise it will slow the games development progress and testing progress not to mention decrease the amount of available options.

psychoak, was there no way in Civ 4 to have 'normal' turn processing (like I remember from Civs 1 & 2 & maybe 3)? I never bought it because my local 4X friends called it to task for being a lying resource hog that needed way more PC to run decently than the box claimed. I've been flirting with getting a copy now that I have an adequate Vista box, but I'd think my money wasted if I ended up forced into a click-speed fight with my own PC.

In singleplayer, you're playing Civ 4 like any other TBS where orders are being appllied instantly - you make your moves then AI makes it's moves. In multiplayer, you may choose between normal turns and simultaneous turns. For obvious reasons (games are much faster), most online players prefer simultaneous turn games.

And Civ 4 is better than Civ 1-3, especially with expansions.

I don't know what games you've played that have it, but like that, Civ4 worketh not.  Maybe you're confusing lag with some complex system for resolving turns?

Movements are made in real time, he who clicks the fastest gets to decide how things work out.  It's bloody irritating in the FFH mod.  Radial damage spell spamming...

One feature of a fan's mod is imbalanced when a game option "simultaneous turns multiplayer" is on. Obviously, it's not an entire game's fault.

We are getting a bit into this in the multiple display thread.  Talking about different things that could be done for hotseat using 2 moniters.

Ideas right now include 'cinimatic view' on the 2nd (or 3rd?) display so that the not-playing player(s) have something to watch, and possibly having an option where the players are split between the different screens so that users can move the monitor in such a way that each player cannot see the other screen so you can have hotseat games that don't suffer from 'both players can see what the other is doing'

Hmmm, I could actually make use of Hot Seat play.

I love how you post, "hey, I could use this" in a 4-month dead thread...

I was just thinking the same thing.  Necroposting (the act of posting on a "dead" thread) I feel is justified if something is really added.   Though I guess sometimes people just want to get it to the surface of the thread list for others to post on.

I hope the beta is hotseat, or at least beta 2 or 3 in the case that frogboy isn't full of it when he claims Beta 0 won't be fun (I personally don't believe him.   I feel the game will have problems, and it will be incomplete.   But I am willing to bet money I'm going to 'have fun' while playing beta 0)

My memory sucks but I don't remember Paradoxnt posting here since a very long time. So maybe just trying to catch up and give his opion in the threads that for him offer something to comment.

It was mentioned in a Mercury News article a month or so ago... sounded pretty fait accompli at the time.  Sorry I don't have the time to look it up right now.  It was an overview of Apple moves and was part of the story on their pull out from Mac World, I think.

I suppose the fact that moving to Intel processors was an actual user friendly move on Apple's part makes it easy for me to believe they'll discontinue it ASAP.  I need a Unix laptop for work or I wouldn't own a Mac.  Apple's got to be the least user firendly company I've ever encountered, outside of the phone "services", anyway.

Considering the resources they and their software houses spent in switching everything TO Intel, it seems highly unlikely they'd switch away from it suddenly now. Unless it's to AMD anyway, but that wouldn't change anything.

Damn you Wintersong for calling me out!  :P

It's true, I've been gone a while now.  Employment was (until recently) taking up a lot of my time.  Plus, the Galactic Empire clan membership conflit arbitration I was forced to do non stop kind of burnt me out on games for a while.

Sill, I am extremely excited about Elemental's game concept.  I'm here for the long haul!

Sorry for asking this, but I´m new to the forums, and it´s just too much information for just a few days read. Is it already been discussed about DRM on EWOM?

I´ve recently bought sacred 2 (a diablo clone) and it came with DRM. I had to connect to a server to validate my install and then reconnect again when uninstalling the game. Thats not what I expected from a game, and as always, the good people are being punished because of the bad. Anyway, everything went fine and I have no complains.

An interesting feature on sacred 2 is that I can install the game on a friend´s pc, only 2 copies of the game can be active at a given time, but both cannot connect at the same time to internet servers . That way we can play on lan. This would be nice to see on EWOM, because I believe this kind of atitude makes more game fans than disrupt sales.

@katabroc:   stardock has some pretty clear DRM policies.   They try to limit DRM as much as possible, since there is no sense to hurt the experiance of paying users just to stop pirates that are likely going  to hack the game anyway.

Very likely, the only DRM of any kind will be the use of registering the game's key on impulse to obtain updates.

So, has there been any official word on multiplayer hotseat; a definant yes/no?

I read through the thread, but it seemed to have gotten off topic slightly, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks in advance

not yet.  Beta 2 will address multiplayer, so it can be expected we will know more of what their current thoughts are on the subject soon.

Yes i loved it how in heroes of might and magic we had hotseating when i was a kid me and my dad used to play all the time together.

I wholeheartedly support hotseating.
