Ultimate Edition and Endless Universe difference?

  1. What is the difference between Ultimate Edition and Endless Universe?
  2. I've purchased the Ultimate Edition and then found out there is an Endless Universe. Which i didn't know about, its not even on the galciv2 site.  I'm a bit worried did i get the newest version?

Ultimate Edition = DL + DA + TA

Endless Universe = DA + TA (has DL campaign accessible from DA/TA)

Both of the above are (only?) EU-specific.

Neither of these is mentioned on SD's site as they're done through Kalypso.

Ultimate Bundle = DL + DA + TA at essentially a discount from Stardock directly.

I still don't get it, Whats the differnce you siad that with endless universe"(has DL campaign accessible from DA/TA)"; does that mean to play the campains from DL i just need to put the DL disk in? but if i got the Endless Universe I would be able to play it with out doing it (having to change disks)? I'm more confused.

No.

You can play the previous campaigns from the newer expansions, but they'll be using the newer expansions' mechanics/rulesets.  So running the DL campaign from within DA lets you play the DL campaign with DA rules.

Whereas with DL itself installed you can play the DL campaign with DL rules.

The expansions are significantly different from each other that it's almost like a whole new game.  But on the other hand I've grown partial to DA myself.

For what it's worth, GC2 has never required a disc to run.

Can you do that in both Endless Universe and Ultimate Edition(play DL Campaigns with DA/TA rules)?

Sorry to be a pain! is there any other differnces? or are they the same, from reading around and what you've said i've worked out that Ultimate Edition is all the 3 (DL+DA+TA). While Endless Universe is a standalone expansion that has (DA/TA without DL) but still lets you play the DL compaigns, you just won't be able to play DL Campaigns with the DL rules.

So i have made the right choice in getting Ultimate Edition, as i'm getting what i get in Endless Universe aswell as getting Dread Lords?

Can't wait to play, game should be shipped to me soon, YES!

From an Ultimate Edition installation :

In DL => play DL campaign

In DA => play DL & DA campain

In TA => play TA campain only

When the 2.x (whatever the x is at the time) patch goes up on Impulse for EU/UE, the DL/DA campaigns should be enabled from the TA game.  In fact, I thought the DA one was already, but I may be mistaken in that regard.  In any case, I'm almost positive this was a 2.0 fix.

@Linglestein

The only difference between the two is the inclusion of DL, and hence the ability to play the DL campaign with the DL rules, from the DL game.  This doesn't change your options for playing the campaigns from the rules of the newer expansions, as Kellmar has listed them.

Right, this thread's rather old, but I have one stupid question to ask:

How can I switch between the chapters in the UE from Kalypso?

And I don´t mean to get the campaigns started (all the campaigns can be accessed via ToA); what I mean is how can I start/create a custom DA/DL game ?

The "switch chapter" button on the starting screen below the "update serial" is not there! Well, at least, in the download version from SD it is there... but the Kalypso version is missing it... this is really strange. Even in the paper instruction it says, it should be there, but nadda, just the link to galciv2.com.

Barring the launcher, just go to the location you installed at in explorer and make a shortcut to the appropriate exe (GalCiv2.exe, DarkAvatar\GC2DarkAvatar,exe, Twilight\GC2TwilightOfTheArnor.exe).
