Moving Research Items From One Race To Another?

Hi, i found an interesting research item, i suppose it is tied to an ability, though i am not sure, it is the detect phasejump by the other races and shows the "traffic" of the opponents from one world to another as they jump.

I would like to attempt to move this over to the Advent, but am not familiar with the research tree layout, that is something i will have to study. To get it into the advent tree without taking the space of another research item already listed.

If anyone has experience with moving items from one tree to another, or the block and position numbers i would appreciate the enlightenment. Thanks and take care,

Sincerely,

-Teal

Scratch that, i got it, there is a block 0,1,2 position 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 setup. The advent dont have anything in that area, so was able to leave the hyperspace sensors in its original block and position. Left the cost the same as well, i think its 1800 credits and metal and crystal of course, but it works.  :)  Im a happy camper!!   Haha    :)

Anyway, thanks anyway, take care,

Hey Teal,

How changeable is the research tree? If I want to create a new race, can I create a complete research tree for it as well? What kind of space is available? Is there like 7 slots only, or can you add 15 research items in one line?

Hi Tkins!!  :)

The trees are new to me, so i shouldnt comment too much, as i dont want to mislead you.

However, my guess is you can create a new tree, i think it will use the same layout and the researches that you want from either of the other three races you want to keep, or new researches. One of the modders on Wincustomize has a mod that adds more levels to the trees for all the races, instead of only one or two or three levels, he increased it to like ten levels for lots of them.  :)  Haha, that is alot. Take a look at his mod if you can, and open it up in notepad to look at the way he put it together. Check the playeradvent.entity playertech.entity and playerphase.entity to see those entries. Check the research items in the gameinfo folder to see their position and a little of how they work. Most dont explain what they do inside the file, that is located in the infocard but it is interesting. :)

Anyway, i will have to turn you over to someone much more experienced than me, as i am just a newbie at this, but thank you, and oh... i got the phase stabilizers for the advent and the tech added in my Songs of a Crystal Sun 3.4 mini mod that i put on filefront,  the url is:

Take care and have fun, let me know how the tree research goes!!

You can create a new tree, but only 8 columns. Each column is a lab tier corresponding to the number of labs and I'm pretty sure that can't change.

Making a new tree is easy, at least if you borrow the layout from one of the existing races, since the graphics are already separated into the blocks. Just make your research techs, change their position (the block and location settings) to fill it up, and list all those techs in your new race's entity file.

Awesome. Thanks guys.

So with each "lab layer" how many items can we place there? Say I wanted to make all ships available with 1 military lab, would there be room for 15 research items in that layer? Just as an example.

Hm, dunno. Count the max number of rows :P There should be room for at least 10-12 different techs for each lab tier, for each research type (military/civic).

So 80 - 96 total research items for military and civic? That's a hefty amount! Lots of room to work.

The total number is over 100. Each race has ~100 slots filled between both, and there's still empty space :)
