The Darkness between planets

The Darkness between planets

Has anyone tried flying between planets or *gasp* even stars without using the phase drive? Just usuing the normal slow sublight? Me and my friend were talking about it, and how it could be a good sneak attack method (long sneak attack) because then you wouldn't get the 'phase jump detected' thingy when you're en route to an enemy system. So, has anyone tried it? is it even possible? I know you ca nfly really far out of a grav well, but i've never tried going all the way.

what do you mean multiple rings?  as in like Saturn?

Crazyness man. Great screenshots, btw.

While messing around with the in-game map editor, i did manage to make two planets with overlapping grav wells, and have seen the bug with ships exiting grav wells.

ship outside of grav well:

Your pathetic scientific meddling cannot possibly determine the meaning of life! Only haggis can...

Only the great Frog can!

*Coughs* haggis is better than the Great Frog. The haggis alone can tear holes in the fabric of space!!

It's amazing how a conversation degenarates so easily! All it takes is for someone to post something completely stupid...

Yeah, honestly.

So exarion, do those gravwells work? Can you fly between them with no problems, or does it register you as still being in the starting well?

It does still register your ships as being in the starting grav well when you cross over using sub light drives.you also have to get to the edge of the starting well to phase, just like a normal grav well. However, your ship have to jump from the edges, meaning there is a phase jump animation, which appears inside the grav wells, and the ships actually move backwards during the phase jump.

That's what i figured. I've never tried complete transit, but i guess the game can't handle it. *Sighs*

Maybe in the next patch/mod/thingy

could it be possible to have rare planet spawns with multiple rings that would act like phase stabalizer nodes that anyone can jump to, adding alot more stategy

excluding homeworlds of course

One of the main problems with a colossal empire is that supply lines end up overstretched, making reaction times very slow. Introducing 'conduit worlds' for different sectors (like in Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton) would improve reaction time for military vessels. One of two main problems with this is that trade ships would provide less income because they travelled shorter distances, and enemy vessels could secure these worlds and launch attacks anywhere in the entire sector.

One of my ideas is to create a galaxy in Galaxy Forge (get it here: https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/downloads.aspx) and introduce a 'wormhole network' that links individual worlds together. Simply place a wormhole outside a planet, then create a wormhole link to another planet, and then keep doing it until the desired planets are linked together.

Or you could play vasari ;P

just rethinknig everything i said...  i think it'll be WAY to hard implementing stuff like this,   planets so close to eachother that u can use impulse drive and get their without 1/2 hours is .. rly near impossible,   planets to close to eachother just doesnt work.. the gravity pulls them apart.. eventually forming either asteroids comets or an entire new planet even bigger.  but with a huge gravity >.>

so no i think the concept as it is now is fine,  dont make it more difficult then it already is,  i spend enoguh time trying ot make long trade chains,  having to worry about ships not using pohase lanes maxes it x300% more doffiicult   and i alreayd spend all my time managing my empire and attacking

so anyone with common sense, dont add more stuff, just expand and improve what we already have

get the bug in wich ships get stranded outside the grav well fixed!

i just had this problem 2 games back a 3v3  4 of my carriers used regular drive to go to a planet.. i won.. barely.. becuase i missed those 4 carrier for the rest of the game... noticed them when my fleet jumped out and the game said there were still ships present   (toguh they were hafway a phaselane... longest on that map >.>

Just a joke, no need to get hostile ;)

I only play TEC

@ exarion  might have been nie to make a screenshot of horizontal and vertical vieuw of picture #2   mostly the planets i see arent actualy overlapping, they have a differance in height (still buggy since height shouldnt matter that much) .. but possible

grav wells actualy overlapping is ships using regular drive being faster at the other planet then when using phase jumps

who said TEC was democratic?  ever read Dune?  they are quite clear on the doom of democracy, especially when it comes to galactic civilizations.  Also, it was said that the TA was a collection of multisystem corporations.  as well as having the "Aluxi Dynasty".  a democracy has no place for a dynasty
