Is there a way to install both the New 1.1 and the Old 1.05 so i can run old mods in the 1.05 copy ?

Hi, I updated and it is pretty cool, but i miss the mods, and there are several old mods that i think are no longer in development. So i wanted to ask if there is a way to install both 1.1 and the old 1.05 on the same machine? I have a d drive that i could install the 1.05 copy to, but thought that the mod folder path is going to be the same as my 1.1 version, does it matter? Or do i need a second mod folder path for the separate 1.05?

I know this is a silly question and i apologize, i just dont know the answer.

Thank you and take care.

Keep Modding!!  :)

hmmm....  can't install, the self aware installer wants to update, or repair or uninstall the game. I was hoping it would ask me "where" to install, but no such luck. It looks like i cant do it on the same machine. Maybe another, but although we have 3 computers in the house i only have access to one. :(  Well... I guess that is that.  Sorry to post and then find out i should have tried it first and then asked. Or in this case, i wouldnt have had to ask. I would already know i couldnt do it.

Anyway, something new everyday!  Take care and see ya in the forum.

The only way to get 1.05 back is if you have an install disc so you can start with 1.0 and apply the 1.05 update. The way it works is you install drom disc, patch to 1.05. Make a copy of the installation folder and put it somewhere, then log into Impulse and update the proper installation to 1.1. This way you'll have your main install linked to Impulse and it'll be 1.1, and you can still run 1.05 out of the copied folder.

If you don't have a CD to install from though, you're out of luck - there's no way to get earlier versions out of Impulse.

I wonder if it would be possible by changing the SDC/Impulse Install Paths between installs, and as Annatar11 says, starting with a previous version on CD, ... or by Restoring an Backup version of the game via SDC/Impulse - if you have that setting turned on.

Hmmm... i have my original disk, i had it in the dvd drive of course to install, but it "see's" the 1.1 updated version on my c: drive. I was hoping of course to install to my d: drive to keep them separate.  :)

Ahhh.. copy my main install folder c:\...\stardock games\sins of a solar empire\etc... to my d: drive? If i understand you correctly. then start up that copy, log on to impulse and, actually when i first updated 1.05 i did it off the Sins site. to 1.05.028 i think?  If i am understanding you, then i will have separate launchers and separate versions? But why is the disk needed? I have it, with my original serial number and everything, does the program look for the disk?

Sorry, i think i confused myself, haha, sorry about that.  :)

You'll have to uninstall your current game to be able to install from scratch. :P

Here's how it goes:

- Uninstall 1.1.

- Install 1.0 from disk.

- Patch game to 1.05 using the stand-alone patch from fileplanet, filefront, etc.

- Copy that installation folder (C:\Program Files\Stardock Games.... wherever you put it) to wherever you want it on D:\

- Launch Impulse and update from 1.05 to 1.1

You now have 1.1 you can launch from your default install and Impulse, and 1.05 you can launch from the copied folder by launching Sins of a Solar Empire.exe from there :)

Ahhh.... okie, let me go slow, haha, so i dont confuse myself.

1. Uninstall the game.

2. Install 1.05 to D: drive.

3. Copy game folder C:\...\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\etc... to C: drive.

4. Start copy from the C:\drive and log into Impulse.

5. Update copy on C:\ drive.

??  Hmmm.... haha, well... i guess if i want "both"  haha.  :)

Thank you to all, i appreciate your time. Thank you. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.

:)

Unless it "see's" the other copy and wont let me update, haha, software that is self-aware. You got to love it!

:)

Thank you,

Sincerely,

I got it to work so that I have both 1.05 and 1.1. Before I downloaded 1.1 (don't know if its too late for you to do that) I copied my entire Sins folder, and renamed it. Then I intalled 1.1, and it went to the orginal, not the renamed copy. My default Sins goes to 1.1, but if I go into the copy and select Sins from inside it I go to 1.05, with all my mods. Hope this helps.

Everyone has been very very helpful, thank you. I'm afraid im too late to copy, i updated already, haha, i should have copied it, just to be safe you know... but well. I guess if i do the uninstall that Annatar talked about and that you did, would get me there.

Seb9 had a wonderful idea, but i think if only applies to my 1.1 version, i will have to look on impulse to see if i have a backup copy available for a download. And if it would let me install it somewhere other than the C:\ drive, where my original, now updated copy is.  :) But thank you very much for all the help, the people in the forums are wonderful!!

I will let you know how the impulse thing goes!  :)

Take care and keep modding!!

That is okie, i have the reference files from the 1.05 Forge Tools, and of course the new ones. It is very kind of you, but i have decided to forge ahead and not look back. It is a thought to uninstall and reinstall and copy and update and then not update the other, and to use one shortcut for one, and another shortcut for another, and who's on second?  Haha,

Well... i think i will live with 1.1 and enjoy it, and live without mods until i can re-build some of my own.  :)

Lots less... stuff... haha. Anyway, thank you for the kind offer, but i will pass thank you.

But you get a karma for the thought!
