I Might Be Performing A Wedding Next Year

A friend of mine, who lives in California, is getting married in October of next year. He contacted me and asked if I would be willing to perform the wedding (I guess I'm the only ordained person he knows LOL).

I checked with the state of California and found that I can legally perform the marriage there so I told him I would do it. I then realized that I hadn't seen my ordination papers in a few years (will need them when it comes time to sign the marriage license). I dug through some of my old file boxes and didn't find them. They must be among the stuff I have in storage in another state (remains from a former life).

I'll have to contact the church and have copies sent to me sometime between now and next Oct. A small annoyance and minor fee but nothing major. As I am actually ordained by two different churches if the one can't provide them perhaps the other can. Worse case I can get re-ordained in short order and have new papers issued if they can't produce copies of the originals.

I'm quite flattered that they want me to officiate their wedding and am already quite looking forward to it. Wonder what I could knit for them as gifts between now and then?

The last wedding I performed was up in Virginia. It was a true biker wedding for a couple of friends and it was a real blast. The bride and groom insisted that I wear jeans, a harley tee-shirt, and a black leather jacket to perform the ceremony. I had no problem with that LOL.

This one won't be like that, but knowing this guy it will still be a lot of fun. I've never met his bride-to-be so I'll have to manage to get out there and get to know her sometime between now and the wedding (I don't like marrying strangers, which is why I don't do it often).

Ah well, just another of those interesting facets in the jewel of life.

How do you go about getting ordained?  Might be an interesting thing to pick up sometime. :)

Depends on the religion/denomination. You can actually be legally ordained on the internet for free, but normally it requires some form of schooling or study.

Hardly a talent, just a legal status.

I am ashamed to not have been addressing you in the proper form these past few years, your Reverence. ;)

That sounds cool! And especially about your friend asking you to officiate!

Wow, our very own scarf knitting, people marrying, beer drinking, leather wearing, blog writing, truck driver. So Mason, is there anything else you do that we don't know about? Notary Public? Lawyer? Lobbyist? Dog trainer? Race car driver by night?
