Impulse development blog

We're hard at work with the next interim build of Impulse.  We still have a lot of work to do but here's a status of where we're at.

Cleaner.

We have made Impulse's minimum size down to around 600 x 400. You can resize it but now it can use even less space for users who are running on lower resolution desktops.

We've also removed a number of icons from the display to reduce the clutter. Now it's only the help icon.

Another change is that the store has been re-named as "Explore" in preparation for its expansion to support mostly free content.

Easier

The Impulse start menu is now a lot simpler and a lot faster. In fact, performance all around has been substantially improved to make the app feel a lot snappier in use.

What's next?

We're going to be adding a feature to hide tabs, change the skin and more.

If you have any suggestions or ideas, let us know!

I'd like to see the software and themes separate into sub-tabs in the My Desktop tab.

You can now. just hit the + button and create categories.

When clicking on the "More info" button for individual items, e.g., in "My Desktop", it would be more than desirable to actually get some more information concerning a product of interest. For example, clicking on "More info" for the item, "Component Tray" brings you to the store but nothing at all is to be found for this item. Even doing a Search for it results in nothing. So, no info? No sale! ^_^

I'm just not sure why there were permanent non-deletable tabs to begin with. With Impulse supposedly being a flexible next-gen platform, why have stuff hard coded like that??

Changing the skin sounds good. May I suggest allowing more integration with WindowsBlinds? Then an impule user could use any skin they want :).

Is it possible to download it now?  Or is this the feature changes that are going to be in the next release?

Oh, if so, when will it be released please?

Thank you,

First of all you'd better think off functionalities coorectly working instead off look.

For instance and for the only part i'm interisting in this big factory which impulse is ( :annoyed: ) , i mean, skining parts, there's a lot of features which where avaible with SDC which don't exist anymore (ex: download and archive an application BEFORE installing it), other things are really annoying:

- loading Impulse and/or MyColors switches off the setting off WindowBlinds displaying the WB icon in traybar ...

- Impluse doesn't memorize the setting in "My Desktop" Tab off sort by ...

In a word, Stardock is still in the same way off practise: let's make an evolution before having done a whole fixed and stable version of previous one :|
