Tweaking GalCiv 2.0

Working on the final play balancing for the upcoming release of GalCiv II v2.0 (November 5!).

We've made tourism bring in more money and military ships cost less to upkeep along with significant changes to how much research costs, especially late game.

My class 30 planet.  Don't hate the player. Don't hate the game....on second thought, don't hate the game either..

Sweet. But I have one question, where do I find it on Impulse once it's released.

All I can say is that if you've made weapons more expensive again (in line with DL and DA), that I love you.

By expensive what do you mean?

My bad, I thought it was obvious I was talking about research costs, not production costs.

I would just assume tack on more weapons/defense techs at the end, and make them incrementally better; the same way as before.   Not terribly difficult to balance.  And players get a kick out of building these big behemoths.

Maybe Big Bang Eruptors (after Black Hole), or DreadLord Death Ray, or Quantum Telepathic Defenses.   Or Subatomic Miniaturization  (description:   This technology utilizes the empty space within the suborbital regions of atoms to compact devices to the utmost extremes...).

I now know exactly what i'm goin' to do on the evening of Nov 5th!

Barely a week before my tough surgery on the left hand -- after that, it'll be a slooooowwww but 'tricky' working time to *finally* release CoSH version 05-B and continue design of the entire fleets for X-Worlds.

Where are "my_wished_for" shipyard Green or Blue hard_points? :w00t:

Nevermind that, as long as the terrain query_tiles renaming schema has been fixed & the extra bonuses are there... i'll be playing & modding along for a good while this winter.

(PS: What i find truly weird in that snapshot is that the Drengins are going for Ascension and that the lemony Arceans seem far enough from 'interrupting' YOUR paradise test!)

It's my birthday on the 5th!

Nice prezzie guys - thanks 5* :w00t:

Brad, could you post the final list of changes from 1.96 to 2.00? Possibly I missed it.

Thanks, Gherardo

huh?

That's a typo.  You know the saying: "Don't hate the player, hate the game."  Often, player is substituted with "playa", which may or may not have an h on the end of it, but the same point applies.  He meant to say, "Don't hate the player, hate the game...on second thought, don't hate the game, either."

You mean you are updating the textures again? or are you just referring to the already updated textures??

You've updated the textures again? Well hope so, cause damn those planets and star look nice. O_O

Well in the United States there is this little thing call Election Day 08 on Nov. 4th!!!  Not much at stake just the job of President, Vice-President, and several seats in the Senate and Congress.  Tomorrow will determine the direction the US will take over the next 4 years.  The events of the past month have made clear that matters not only to Americans and US residents (I'm Canadian but live in the US) but people all over the world!

Man! If only it was available tonight!  Then I would have something to keep my mind off the stupid election.

More good stuff on the GS front. Now if only I could find the time to play a game...

My bolding.

Original post is irrelevant; I now see the changes made.  When all else fails: Play the game.

I find the mechanism used to change costs interesting, but not necessarily worse than what I envisioned.  While I was more so expecting a change in either base cost, tree prerequisites, or perhaps even changes to how certain types of techs impact tech inflation, and maybe even the tech inflation cap, this certainly appears to get a large portion of the job done.

Thank you for that.  :)

However, given that I can't as of yet see how late game techs were reduced in cost, I suppose the inflation changes are still possible as well.

In addition to the above, I would like to clarify that when I suggested that weapons trees cost more (as they do in DL and DA, largely due to having more techs to research), I was not suggesting that defenses cost more as well.  I am aware that this may no longer exactly be up for discussion, but I still feel that the weapon:defense tech cost ratio was better in DL/DA.

In any case, I am still curious about those weapon branches on the tree that simply don't go anywhere any more-or rather, that one cannot get to (not that they're necessary or produce bugs by being that way).
