Anyone looking to create a mod?

Hello everyone,

Just a little post inviting anyone who is interested in making a SoaSE mod (either good, bad, expert or beginner) for any reason...(adding a new race, new ships, only little balance of game), to step forward and try to form a team!

Even if all you have are ideas for mods, write them down and I'm sure together, we can accomplish them and be like all the great modders out there (*winks at DANMAN, SpardaSon, ManShOOter, and all the other ones I missed)!

Likewise here...getting my first 6 ships online (with abilities, stats, etc.) then worry about textures !

Got a whole book of information of texturing under XSI 6 to read :(! Lots of hours are flying by! But hell its worth it!

got it... im focusing on balancing powers of the 2 factions.... and im thnking a direct kill 1 shot on cruiser if hit on bridge without shield of course! im also consructing mobile suit technology tree so you dont have to worry about the 2 factions.. like ignorance to shield when using melee weapons

Sweet! so I can focus only on this great tool which is mod tool 6 (which is extremely laggy after being on for 12h straight :( ) *forgot to close it before left for university :(

well ill say this, texturing is not something i can do, nor would have the pacients to learn to do. at any rate, as far as coding abilities and ships, this is my area of experties at the moment, altho im a little rusty i like trying to find unique ways around hardcoaded limits and tinkering with ideas as well as trying to make ships look nice. most of mo mods have been rather overpowered but i do it because im bored and i mean, come on, it just looks sweet with having large beams decimating a fleet or a planet (in one of my old mods i made a colony capital shoot a large beam from the bombing muzzle and hammer targets at long range with the two weapon mounts on its belly. i never actualy worked with other meshes sides stock but id love to it least play around with a few when i got free time. (specialy if you make gundams, that would kick arse XD.)

I have little artistic talent, but I'm a decent scripter.  coders have the second toughest job next to game testers; making those balancing tweaks that aren't game breakers for the mod.  my interest would be in specialized fleets unique to each race.  Helps keep gameplay fresh when one race relies on cap ships while another is able to ambush with small frigates and disable cap ships before picking them apart.

If you're looking for a coder or game tester, let me know.  Keep in mind that frigates are hardcoded to shoot at fixed distances.  capships with side guns are able to shoot on the move at least, so if you're looking for a GUNDAM sword attack to move your unit past a target as it slices away, forget it.  Far as I know, the models are static, and it's the weapons and special abilities that are the movable parts.

Speaking of movable part, I doubt itcan be done , but can I create a vessel with a center ring that would continously turn on itself? IE. can ships have interactive areas..?

Rotating sections are doable.  Its via a particle effect.  The entire rotating section is the particle effect.  They basically make something as a model, then import it into Particle Forge as a particle effect, then they attach it to the model as a flair.

out of curiosity, do weapons deliver a fixed amount of damage after factoring buffs and abilities being used?  what I'm wondering is if weapons do random damage and sometimes miss.  My impression of weapon attacks is they deliver X amount of damage and some buffs/abilities will increase this amount, some will decrese it till a calculated value is reached which ends up damaging the target, and random rolls aren't factored in.  I've yet to see a weapon miss a target unless it phased out of the gravity well.

Also, I'm curious to know where the mod developement is at.  Have you decided on base models for each faction, or which factions make the final cut?  and what has been put into mod form so far?  if there's a link to it I'd like to check it out myself.

There are accuracy values in Sins.  Unfortunately the devs didn't exploit that by making frigates harder to hit than cruisers, cruisers harder to hit than capitals, and capitals easy to hit.

 

These values are in Gameplay.constants under the header "DamageData" and they are all named "ChancetoHitTargetType".  It goes by weapon types.  Unfortunately it isn't by armor/weapon types otherwise one could make it so anti-fighter weapons could miss against capitals due to their rounds basically bouncing off the armor.

after reading the recent post... Exia is armed with beam gun so i'll just ut the usage of  Seven Swords on skills.... so its normal attacks are beam attacks... and yeah i was about to ask the rotating thingy if its possible coz i'll add a mobile fortress on ZAFT...

is a mass kill beam weapon possible?

can i make torpedo make a direct hit on hull?

WOW.........lots of quetions about codding (not my area of expertise)! Nothing I can do about that!

For what is of the status of the mod, we would have to create a nice recap post with everything we want and have (right now it's just laying on the table every idea that comes through our heads! I think. :(

1. Mobile Suit Evasion possible?  Hmmm....  i assume if there is a model, yes.

2. Upgrades on Evasion? Do you mean visual upgrades? Or skill upgrades, which can be done like the ships are now.

3. One hit kills are very very possible. Easy compared to the other stuff.

4. 100% evasion?  Hmmm... I wish i knew what you mean by evasion, but im assuming yes at this point.

5. Mass kill beam weapon... hmmm... not sure... single targeted, EMP however is a area of effect weapon, but it depletes antimatter i believe.

6.topedo direct hit on hull, yes.... i think this is possible. Do you mean, go around the shields? Vasari do that now.

7. Torpedo mine.  Mines are used by the TEC i believe, so yes, this is possible.

8. Damage to shield and not to hull? I believe that either Vasari or TEC have something like this. So yes.

9. Mobile Cannon?  :)  there is a mod for a mobile defense, so yes.

10. Range/Melee inter-changeable? Hmmm... Range means at a distance, Melee usually refers to Close to Hand, as in Hand to Hand combat, Inter-changeable? Hmmm.... Not sure, but I suppose it is possible to have a weapon or ship have one long range and one short range to cover both. I am not sure if that is what you mean though.

1. By evasion do you mean to-be-hit chances?  Or just flying and dodging that way?  That can't be done, however to-be-hit chances can be done via abilites and buffs.

 

5. Mass kill beam weapon is VERY possible.  Have you ever seen the Radiance's Cleansing Brilliance beam in action?  THAT'S a beam of mass destruction.

 

6. Do you mean ignoring shields?  Phase missiles do that, can be done via research, not sure about abilities doing it.

 

8. Easily done.  If you look at the weapon entries for the various units, there is a line called "DamageTypeModifier" and usually it says "AFFECTS_SHIELDS_AND_HULL", however if you change that to "AFFECTS_ONLY_SHIELDS", then only shields will be damaged.  And I *think* there is a special modifer for abilities, not sure what it is though.  Probably DoDamageToShields.

 

10. Melee weapons CAN be done, just really, really hard to do.  And due to hardcoding, not fun to look at.  Unless it is a fighter doing the slicing, no fly-past-then-slash-again for it.  So IF this is done, do it for a FIGHTER Gundam.  Byt that I mean it is a strikecraft attached to a larger vessel.  Otherwise we get stuck with a Gundam hovering there point-blank slicing the target, which is incredibly boring.

welll base on your replies.... i guess i have my answers...

1. its possible.... but what if doging with visuals??

2. evasion... evading enemy fire... is it possible that it is already in it and is it possible to upgrade it?

3. can 1 hit kill percentage be set?

4. if you answer 1,2 is 100% evasion possible for a duration of time?

5. answered well and satisfied....

6. direct hit on hulls... possible!

7. Torpedo mines- Torpedo that is deployed in a certain area that approaches target ships on range cant be detected by radar.... is it possible?

9. Mobile cannon... a cannon that can join together with a fleet! is it possible?

1. Ships can be given chances to evade, however they still won'y move in combat.  Sorry, but you would need to micro them a lot to get the desired effect.

 

2. Evasion is in the game already.  Sorta.  Like I said, ships can be given a buff that makes a certain percentage of shots miss.  Unfortunately, like I said above, the ships STILL stand still.  So they will be missed, even if they are just standing there.

 

3. No, no there are no critical hits in Sins.  A weapon does not have a chance to hit something and then do more damage that way.  There are no damage variances in Sins.  Weapons always do the exact same damage with every shot.  So if a weapon were able to one-hit kill something, it would be doing A LOT of damage.  A standard Sins frigate has what, on average 400 shields and 400 hull?  So in order to one-hit-kill, the weapon would need to do over 800 damage per shot.  Which is unbalanced to say the least.  However, if you implement a "Sniper Shot" ability that does massive damage, with a high cooldown and antimatter cost that might work.

 

4.  Yes, it is possible to have something dodge everything shot at it for a set period of time.  Abilities can do this.

 

7. I'm not sure.  We don't have mines after all.  At least not until Entrenchment we won't.

 

9. You basically mean a ship with a huge-ass cannon?  It can be done, just make a ship that is a huge freaking gun.
