File sharing

When I try to access files on main computer from other computer on a network it always says access denied, not pictures folder or documents folder but files & programs on drive c. It's set to share but when I try to access it, it always says access denied. (Don't have permission).. Any suggestions?

Richard need more info - OS version and how you are connected to the net...

Also are you setup for file sharing via your network and firewall setings?

Like what are you using for such firewall and all?

Vista Home premium-Cable connection-Trend-Micro-Network discovery and file sharing is enabled but it won't let access drive c. I can access folders, music and pretty much everything except Program filesx86 and program files  Running 64 bit..I take that back it will let me acees some things on drive c but not program filesx86, program files, or windows (which I really don't care about. But it would be nice to be able to access program files. I've tried the security tab and allowed full control for everyone but it still won't allow to open it..Any ideas..

When in doubt (about whether or not file-sharing is set up correctly or not) try accessing the "admin-share" created by default when file-sharing (the server service) is enabled.

Open "My computer"

In the address bar type " \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\c$   "  (the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is obviously the correct IP address of the computer you're attempting to access.

The above will attempt access to the "admin-share" on said computer.  You will be asked to supply the correct ADMIN credentials to connect (ie. the admin account info of that computer).

If that works, then your problem is likely a permissions one.  If however that doesn't work, then it may be a firewall or other network setting (ie. network discovery etc.)

Post back with more info and we'll be glad to keep helping.

thanks,
