The purple star

What is the purple star??? I've seen an alien colonize one in my very first game and it had 3 20+ planets in the system.

Is this like a SUPER STAR or something? Better than yellow?

Is there one on every map? (I doubt it...) Is this a rare and random thing?

I heard it mentioned in a thread somewhere. Do they show up on stellar maps?

It is said they contain very habitable planets, or at least have a higher probability to house them.
In my games however ther was nothing special about them so far. Just planets between 15 and 18.

I think there are 2 types of purple stars, tho I could be wrong. A purple, and a slightly darker purple. The purple have normal planets typically (altho it always seems to have at least one habitable planet), but the influence is much higher (post-precursor world).

The second type (the ones I like!) are those with awesome planets. I've found 'em later in the game, with 2 or more excellent planets in them. They are quite cool simply because the AI doesn't know where they are from the start, and you can find them later.

They are in fact, what I was saying should be the catalyst for a new tech, 'spectral cartography' or whatever you want to call it. Few people seem to get stellar cartography.. having it be a prerequite for another tech would get it used more, and make the other one useful as well, imo.

Actually I'm a big fan of stellar cartography lately since I've been playing on gigantic maps. I know exactly how many colony ships I need and where to send them.

So I'm guessing that purple stars do not show up on the stellar cart. map as yellow???

Is there any way to increase your chance of having a purple on a map...like taking LUCK maybe??? Then again, it's luck for that damn AI too...........

I had a map with two high influence purple stars on it. Their planets were habitable but unexceptional. I was playing the high luck party (Universalists? I forget) at the time, but I've played plenty of games with them where I found no purple stars.
