Uploading to the 2008 GUI Champs

Greetings!

Welcome to the 2008 GUI Champs.  I'm sure you're all working feverishly to finish up your skinning masterpieces for this year's event.  But before you run off to submit your entry, make sure you have the right tools to do so.

This website is designed to work on Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 3

You will also need the latest version of Adobe Flash.

Additionally, please disable any script/ad blocking software.  Our upload system makes heavy use of specialized scripts to ensure a smooth and error-free submission process.  Any software that would interfere with Flash, Javascript etc can break the uploader.

You can try to whitelist the scripts to run, to do that, you'll need to add the following domains to the OK list for your blocking tools (this is not a guaranteed fix):

  • web.stardock.net
  • *.guichamps.com

If you have further problems with the upload process, please post to this thread.

Thanks,

-Mike

Tried to upload my 148,502 KB Dream file and when I got to 4%, I got this error:

Upload Error:

The file you have selected is larger than the allowed maximum size.

Please try again.

There is a maximum file size set for uploads, but I don't know off-hand what it's set at for dreams.  The developer responsible for the upload system is gone for the day, so i can't check on that/have it changed.  I'll get on this first thing tomorrow though and hopefully get a resolution for you.

Sorry for the trouble TMB!

TMB,

We increased the maximum file size from 150mb to 300mb.  Please try again.

I'm sure you're all working feverishly

Damn right!!  I'm trying to work on 3 skins at the same time because I can't decide which one I like best! B[]

Same error:  It occurs in both FF3 and IE7

Please make sure to close, reopen the browser and clear your cache, temp files etc before trying again.  We published an update that should have eliminated that error.

Could you upload the file to a server somewhere so I can download it in the morning and test it from the office?

Sent you the link to the dream file in an email.  Let me know if you got it or need anything else.

Got the file, we're running it through the paces internally to find the error.

Give it another shot.  We think we have it nailed this time.

Everything worked as advertised!

It's great when things work as advertised isn't it!  :)

Just curious if we will be able to submit updates to already submitted entries?

Yes, you can submit updates

I think I read somewhere that submissions would automatically appear in the WinCustomize gallery?  Is this still the plan or will I have to resubmit on WinCustomize?

After the GUI Champs are over the skins will migrate to WC.

Just to clarify...team members submit under their name, or the team name?

You submit under your own name.  All entries are attached to the individual.

thier name.

QUESTION..

Can 2 team members work together on a skin? I made a Vista version of a skin and another teammate wants to make the XP version. Is this OK?

From the rules...

  1. You may not obtain permission from other artists to incorporate their work into your submission.  Everything submitted, every graphical element must be entirely the creation of the person submitting.

Seems pretty clear; no.

Competitors can collaborate on concepts, but the pixels have to be their own.

but can they do the setting adjustments if I make all the graphics?

No.  Anything you submit must be 100% your own created artwork.  Another user can consult you on design, but you must make the graphics on your own.  No one may assist you with the actual creation of the skin.

Each skin must be the complete and original creation of the skinner submitting.
