Fume!

I'm laughing at myself now, but I was fuming a bit an hour ago! I still love the library, but they can be a lot of pain when it comes to charging fees!

Remember those dvds and books I mentioned in my other article....? Yeah, I received a phone call, right after I wrote the other one (though my views still remains!) my daughter had a missing disk in one of her returns.  I usually check the cases, but being in a hurry, I forgot to do that this time!

I still had time to return it because I didn't want my daughter's card to be charged. So off I went back to the library with her in tow!  I pulled up to the window, (it was easier) they informed me that I will still be charged the five bucks for a processing fee!  I said  "But I returned the dvd, and the deadline hasn't passed, it is due today" An older librarian came to the window and told me that because someone had to call me, and because letters are processed and whatever they have to do, they are charging the fee.  Well, dang it, this is unfair! (I said to myself)  I'm glad I received the phone call but come on?!

Fume!

The library still rocks, but their new fee system is just crappy!  I know that because of the economy and many cuts in their funding they have been really charging for every little thing these days.  I'm all for them receiving their monies and all, but come on!

Fume!

So I paid the darn fee....grudgingly....in protest...as I drove off I mumbled to myself to write a letter protesting the unfairness of it all!  I could understand had I not returned it the day it is due, but come on!

I still love the library (how's that for arguing against myself uh?!)

Fume! :erk: >_>

Shows you how long it has been for me.  I never rented Videos (they were available then) or DVDs so I just thought it was the normal late charge!  Ouch!

I don't usually think to go to the library, but I took Xavier a while back just to check out the library system here.   I was soooo not impressed.

I was looking for books on natural childbirth and when I couldn't locate any, the lady (begrudgingly) directed me to two very, very old and outdated books on pregnancy.  Not what I was looking for at all.  What's the point of going to the library if they don't have the books you need?

Xavier did find something he wanted, and I got something old but interesting.  Then we turned them in at the very last possible minute because I forgot when they were due.  Oops.

A $5 processing fee is pretty ridiculous, IMO!!

Thanks.  I did check their system and they didn't have anything listed that was remotely like what I was looking for...but I didn't think to ask if they could have something brought in from elsewhere.

Most local libraries have limited stock on hand, but what they ALL share is the ability to get you any little book your heart desires via the inter-library loan system.

Yes, they do that here too. It is very useful!

That system does sound much older than ours. They are pretty updated here and you find books on a wide-variety of subjects including most recent publications.  They have the latest movies and videos and dvds.  I like their system here a lot!

Their normal late charge is $1 per day.  That $5 fee was just their way of saying we inconvenient them to make the phone call I guess. Sheesh!

That is a big fee to charge for a local phone call.  Here, the late fees are almost token and most of the time, if you're prepared to pay straightaway, they usually waive the fee.

And how! I finally got the letter in the mail, which is redundant!  They could have/should have stopped that since I took care of it there and then.

So unfair, Donna...I would have been ticked off, too.  Btw, I paid a library fee yesterday, but it was due to my slacking off... :P  Checked out a few new books, and am hoping I take those back on time. ;)
