Can't connect to Ironclad Online

???

Hey,

I bought Sins this spring shortly after its release (around 1.03 perhaps?), installed it, played some single player, and was able to connect to Ironclad Online with no problems and play a few multiplayer games.  I set the game down for a few months and came back to it a few weeks ago with a burning desire to get back into the online component, only to find out that for some reason my machine can no longer connect to IO.  At first I figured I'd see if it was just a freak occurence but it has happened consistently since then.  I will enter my username and password (the same one I'm using to write this post) and then it will sit for about 30 seconds before telling me I have been DC'd.  I haven't done anything to change my hardware configuration on this rig (my desktop) and my Sins is updated to the latest version.  I also verified the installation with Impulse.  What should I try?

What's bizarre is that I can connect from my school laptop, but I can't play from there because of (I think) driver issues with the laptop's 'mousewheel' region of its touchpad.  As I'm sure I don't need to mention, this is debilitating in Sins where the mousewheel zoom function is crucial to playing the game.  On a side note, does anyone know of compatibility issues with the Compaq CQ50's touchpad scrolling (the driver for which I imagine is proprietary)?

Thanks,

Ian

Could you perform a "trace" from your PC the next time this occurs?

1.  Navigate to the "command-prompt" (ie. START >> RUN >> CMD >> ENTER)

2.  type "tracert 38.98.152.153" at the command-prompt and then hit "enter"

This will "trace" the connection from your PC to ICO's IP and should show you where the connection is getting dropped along the way.

Thanks for the reply!

'tracert 38.98.152.153' returns:

Tracing route to 38.98.152.153 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 Destination host unreachable.

Trace complete.

Does that mean anything to you?

That means the something is preventing connection from your PC to ICO.....plain and simple.

software firewall blocking out-going SINS somewhere?  Some firewalls require re-exemption when a program's .exe changes (which would be the case when you patched the game).
