So, What Are You In For?

I started with the docks too. I got the free version first and spent hours looking throught the icons and backgrounds I could put on it.

I knew I wanted Object Desktop as soon as I saw everything it had. When I finally got it, I was in heaven. I wanted to learn how to skin it all! So far I've made icons, dock backgrounds, rainys, sysmetrix, wallpapers (not my best catagory) and windowblinds.

I still feel like there is so much to learn....and I'm having so much fun doing it!

A small program called Desktop Architect got me serving 8 to 12 (weeks)...

Then I discovered StyleXP and served six months of what could have been a much longer sentence...

Fortunately, somebody managed to sneak me in a birthday cake with a file in it, so I was able to escape...

While on the run I discovered this place called Wincustomize - it seemed like a safe haven to hole up for

a while, but it became my "Hotel California'. I found I could never leave... too many great toys to play with.

My faves would have to be WindowPlinds, IconPackager, ObjectDock Plus, CursorFX Plus and DesktopX

DeskScapes and SoundPackager are great, too, but I gotta say WinStep Xtreme is right up there on the list as well.

Yup, looks like I'm in for life, but that's not so bad... the other inmates are a great bunch, the guards are pretty cool

and management gives us plenty to do for recreation... so I have no plans to dig a tunnel and try to escape.

ObjectDock (free) did it for me.  Then I got Plus, then I got WindowBlinds, then I smarted up and bought an ObjectDesktop subscription.  I've never looked back.

'Tis about what I did, too. I'm in for life, and lovin' it!

I started with window blinds and quickly moved to the hard core stuff Object Desktop.  Before long my desktop was sporting widgets, gadgets, rainy's and sysmetrix skins. 

If my dad were here to see this he would say "Get a Hair Cut!" even though I'm half bald and wear my hair clipped short. And I know what my mom would say "Don't let your Father see you!". 

They say with enough good behavior you can even have weekend visitation here in the SD big house.  Don't tell anyone but, I turned down work release.  I got get another desktop done.

Most who see my computer think it's awesome. My brother hates it and always complains about my docks. As I remember though, my mom was actually using WindowBlinds for quite a while before I began using ObjectDock!

I spent forever configuring OS/2 after leaving windows and it was amazing.  Then I fould Object Desktop and did it again . . but better.

After a gap I found WindowBlind nad it sucked.  Then it got better.  THen it was amazing.  Everything eilse followed.

Hehe... and why wouldn't you!   Yep, I turned down work release as well....

... and when they told me I was being released early for good behaviour, I commited another crime (took a look at RocketDock) so they'd keep me in longer.

Nope, I'm not in favour of these early release programs - if you do the crime you should do the time - so I'm hoping my look at RocketDock carries a life sentence.  If not, I'll scour the internet software pages until I take a look at something that does.

ASCII codes to alter your DOS prompt....

First awareness of what a skin/skinning was was fly7e's hacking of WinAMP to alter its default look [that of an ugly Llama's arse].

Then LiteSTEP and the whole alternate shell fraternity....

Then Windowblinds [pre v1.0]...;)

For me at first i got addicted to screen savers. I Went to every website that had sorenesses and  grabbed as many as i could. One day for some reason or another I landed on a  website that contained no screen saver but had all these cool looking programs to download with free trials, Wondering if i could trust this stuff at Stardock.com.  I kept on eying those programs and finally gave in to Windowblinds.

Once I found Windowblinds I had to try Ojectdock, cursor xp, and that led me to DX and eventually had to buy Object Desktop. 

DX was awesome but could not figure out how to really use it. Thank god for Tiggz And _Martin_ with there awesome themes and widgets. DX  rocked my world.  Because of them and there cool stuff I started to modify what they made. Learning and making DX stuff with there graphics. So because of them and a few others. DX is my favorite.

Just wish i could make cool Graphics.

One fine day, years back when I had a 128 MB Pentium 3 rig, I typed in "customize windows" on Google.

It led me to some site called "WinCustomize" which took hours to fully load on my IE6 with dialup. There were bootskins and screensavers, and something called ObjectBar. Never paid much attention to OD then.

Then one day, my Win 98 got infected and for a year or two, I completely detached me-self from computers. Two years ago, my dad got me a new one, and I jumped right into XP. After a few searches, I found this site again. 

The rest, as they say, is history  

In my early XP days I hated the default cursor.  I discovered this site and found out about a free cursor program... I went nuts!!! I was downloading cursors left and right; I was in cursor heaven. 

Over time and a couple of computer changes later I read about windowblinds.  I downloaded the free version and that was it!!!  I bought Object Desktop, CursorXP Plus, now CursorFX, ObjectDock Plus and well as they say the rest is history.  I am an addict for life!!!

   I found Stardock, and got hooked on windowblinds, the second greatest piece of software ever to hit the computer world!  Second only to DesktopX , of course! I cut my teeth, so to speak, by collecting all of Gef's DX themes, and modifying them to suit my needs.   It was a good 2 years later before I actually made my first rejected theme...lol.  Got disheartened ( that was for Zubaz   lol..) at first. Too lazy to read the guidelines, I was using borrowed graphics, no permissions, nada. I was so green, I didn't realize I was ripping...lol!

    Long story short, I am now practically the owner/operator of the DesktopX gallery. I want that to change. I would love to see DX get as popular as Windowblinds...yeah, right!  

Damn edit button!!!!   That may have been a little over the top, the owner/operator line...  you get the point. Didn't mean to sound egotistical...lol.  Strange, no bar here for smileys, links, etc.  Hmmm....damn pidgeons!

• Windows95 It was Desktop themes.
  
• Win98,  Desktop Architect.
• Sometime after that I found eFX at Skinz.org.
• Which opened my eyes to serious skinning...WOW!
• eFX was quickly dumped when I tried WindowBlinds.
• From WindowBlinds, I went to getting ODNT Subscription.
• To here I am today Fully Assimilated

By far though, My most favorite, Can't live without Proggy is ObjectDoct Plus Man! I cannot live without my Docks!!!

It started about 5 years ago for me.  I wanted a program like the Mac Dock to keep some organization on my desktop.  So, naturally , I downloaded ObjectDock Free.  I LOVED it!  The problem was that it was a bit of a hog on my system then (it wasn't the only hog, though) so I decided that I'd uninstall and wait till I had a better computer to run it.  Well, last year I decided to give it a try again and, obviously, I can't escape  it .  I even have a few friends hooked on it .  I've tried to get my husband to give it a try, but he's too cool  .  

o boy.     i forgot about this one.

This is how one day i stumbled on Stardock website.

At first, my wife thought I was going through some kind of a phase--you know, editing dock icons, creating dock icons, customizing my dock into the late hours of the evening... She humored me, but that was about it.

Now, she uses ObjectDock and Desktop X primarily, and is my biggest fan! (I know you'll pop in here eventually, Honey! )

Funny thing is my husband got me hooked. At first I thought he was going through a phase--you know, editing dock icons, creating dock icons, customizing his dock into the late hours of the evening...so I humored him, but that was about it.

Now I use ObjectDock and Desktop X primarily, and I'm his biggest fan! (How'd I do poppin' in , Honey! )

Well if you must know Grand Theft Auto, Bank Fraud, Littering, Bad Attitude, Parking Tickets, DW...

WindowBlinds is what got me hooked!

It all started with finding WindowBlinds on a disc that came with a computer magazine.  Quickly turned into ObjectDesktop and took off from there.  I have tried just about everything that will work on my XP system.

What's more important though is what keeps me here, the community and its members. 

Oh, I guess Stardock does have a hand in making folks like me very happy also.

I saw a sys admin booting his machine at another office, the bootscreen was different from anything I had seen, asked him what it was and how he did it, he mentioned bootskin and showed a me a few different bootskins he had used on his machine, tried it and then learned that I could create my own bootskins and I was hooked ever since and that was a couple of years ago.  Funny but something as simple as a bootskin brought me to this site and from there it was logons and wb's,etc.  I've been a fan of this site ever since.
