Everyone make sure to get really, really drunk tonight. If we're going out, better go out in style!

So wait from wat I've read of the thread on snopes, is that the physicists of the world are playing around with something that could in essence destroy the planet? And we have no say in this why? I once read in a series of books, I believe they where the forever war series, that basically speaking something that is creating this will cause the big bang again and wipe out the universe. Howerver that is still just a therory but with a possibility like that, isnt playing around with this kind of stuff a little more dangerous then benficial. so hwta if we discover the meaning of life through this it wont do us any good if we're all dead. just my thoughts.

i know i said playing around alot, i meant working with it.

I'd say send the troops and destroy that thing.

I don't belive it to be the end of the world in the sense that everyone thinks it would be.

Worst possible thing that could probably happen would be to have our understanding of physics turned on its head. You know, something rrrreeeeaaaaallllllllyyyyyyyy unexplainable happening like having the Standard model of particle physics getting proven wrong. Or having the Higgs Boson turn out wrong or discovering wacky circus stuff happening that would raise more questions than answers.

Chances of that happening are better than the black hole or strange matter or wormholes happening. We have been smashing atoms for years, and what the giant Hadron collider does isn't so diffrent than what has happened millions of times allready naturaly. It would have happened by now.

But yeah getting compressed into a quantium singularity does sound awsome.

My favorite part:

Dr. Arkani-Hamed said concerning worries about the death of the Earth or universe, “Neither has any merit.” He pointed out that because of the dice-throwing nature of quantum physics, there was some probability of almost anything happening. There is some minuscule probability, he said, “the Large Hadron Collider might make dragons that might eat us up.”

Some of the LHC guys have been receiving death threats from the tin foil hat crowd. It's sad when ignorance of science reaches such a fervant level, especially over something that is no real threat to anyone.

I hope that no black holes are created.

Sweet, I can't wait for it to be activated :D.

If Switzerland blowes up the Earth, I'll be pissed.

I have a theory of what might hapen that will prevent the experiment. There is a chance, that a person or group of people who belive that this will destroy the world, might resort to violence and might try to destroy the machine. My second theory is that some random Europian contry's goverment might try to use it's millitary to stop the machine before the experiment could happen.

lol wouldn't that be horrendously ironic?

Worse yet we could have that rap about the hadron collider wind up becoming the next "Numa Numa" or the next Macarena,...........God help us all

SO THIS IS WHY THE SWISS WONT FIGHT!!!!

THEY WILL WIPE US OUT WITH A BLACK HOLE INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:O

It would

probably not till the end of the week....

tomorrows just a test equivalent to what's already happened in physics.

TeV increase won't happen for a while... frontiers are in place for now...

End today or in 2012....

It's the future, people being scared of the .00001% chance of a black whole or other things are missing the fact that this stuff could change the world.

Actually, the entire point of the machine is that we are TRYING to create a black hole, so really the chances of that are quite high. It's just not going to do any damage, because it will "evaporate" in about 5% of the time it takes for Google to locate 100 websites.

Everyone should quit it with the end of the world speak and just let them turn it on already. I believe it to be one of the greatest things ever :D.
