Size matters

I need help changing my avatar picture.  The one I want to use doesn't meet size requirements and I don't know how to make it smaller.  Can anyone walk me through resizing pictures for dummies?  I would appreciate it.

I could, too.

However, if you want to be self-sufficient, go download IrfanView, install it, and then you can easily crop the picture (drag a box and click 'crop picture') or resize (hit 'resize/resample').

Super-simple.

I use photofiltre and just edit the size to as close to the proper dimensions I can manage to make it, cropping as needed.  Photofiltre is free to DL.

Can we have bigger pics now?
