Demigod: BETA 1 Preparation

Read this

The current plan is get beta 1 out near the end of the week.

  • Beta 1 is the engine test.  It is not designed to be "fun".
  • You will be able to play it on the LAN (either against other people on the LAN or agaisnt AI players).
  • If you want to play people over the Internet, we recommend installing Hamachi. We're not officially supporting Hamachi but it should work.
  • The rook, regulus, and the Torch Bearer are the 3 Demigods we are including with it.
  • The waterfall map is the map we're including with it.

What we are looking for is data on how well it performs on your machine, any incompatibilities you run into, any bugs you run into.  We are not looking for game ideas at this point, that will come with beta 2. Obviously, feel free to post game ideas but beta 1 does not really resemble what the final game will be like in any major way.

Reporting feedback:

  1. Make sure you write your reports in the Demigod BETA forum.
  2. Make sure your reports include your hardware configuration and OS (CPU, video card, OS, and sound card are the biggies).

We will be in the #Demigod channel on IRC which you can reach from Impulse.  You can type /join #demigod to get to it.

Good luck!

Brad, can yuou suggest a tool (or does Stardock or GPG have laying around a tool) that exports the most useful data?  Maybe a DX gadget that grabs the relevant data via WMI and dumps it to text?  Or just is part of a form that posts somewhere useful?

I will do my best

seeing as how this was supposed to be in aug. (I think) is there any changes to when the next step wil be, or are we still planning on a month from now?

I find that dxdiag has most of the data you'd want. Just run dxdiag from a command prompt.

Love the smilies  . Bloody emoticons.

Please do us all a favor and include the full skill trees for the demigods or at least reveal them so that the people wrapped up in how few the demigods are can relax because they're all going to be awesome and not feel like their suspicions are confirmed. It'd be kind of bad if they thought that a third of the tree was the entire tree and left when they would've loved the game.

I'm currently on a laptop with an nvidia quadro something or other (It's a lenovo t61p and I'll look up which model number eventually) which has some odd video glitches with half-life two. Are you supporting quadros fully or should I expect some odd glitches? It's no problem if the demographic with quadros who could buy this game is too small to support the card if there are some odd issues, because my desktop has an 8800 GT, I just don't want to waste your time submitting bugs it wouldn't be economical for you to fix.

Here edit button, edit button... I have candy...

No use, it's gone. Anyway, my card is an nvidia quadro FX 570M. It's pretty good, based off a midrange 8 series card, and can handle most things with aplomb, but in hl2, textures turn blue at distance. Very odd. I think I'll test it on the supcom demo to see if the engine might have any difficulty.

What if the information on Dxdiag is incorrect? for example my pc i have 4 GB or RAM but it only says I have 3 GB?

That's technically right from the computer's point of view. You don't have a 64-bit OS, so it can only address (and use) 4 GB of ram total. Add in your video card's ram and the phantom memory adresses that the computer uses for basic I/O, and you've only got 3 GB adressed (and if it's not adressed, it doesn't exist to the computer). That's where that comes from. Don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal.

Then you're running a 32-bit OS and for all intents and purposes you *do* only have 3 :p

What makes me kinda mad is My pc is 64 bit but stupid vista-64 wont install >< says My pc does not meet requirements grr.

Get a new mobo, processor and video card (bet that's an AGP one). Other than that, just resign yourself to having 3 gigs of RAM. It's not like Schrodinger's cat rules apply and your computer just got slower.

It seems i'll be the only one to do the performance test on an old computer. :D I hope the game will run smoothly with low graphic settings. :P

Can't wait for the beta to start, just preordered my copy last night! I'll be interested to see how it scales with SLI as I have a 9800GX2 card, and if the game is multi-threaded so we will see a scaling in performance from dual-core to quad-core. I've heard that the game is based on the Supreme COmmander engine, so if thats true then it obviously will do.

Nice computer, bet it runs like lightning. Random question. Does the 9800GX2 require an nvidia mobo like all the other forms of SLI?

Sounds good.

I hope phase2 isn't more than a month off. Hopefully much sooner. :P

ya going from dual to quad core on supcom was like night and day with system lag :p

but a lot was video too, so, 8800gtx still treating me good :p

4 systems to try it on :-)

  • Laptop Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5600  @ 1.83GHz (2 CPUs) with 2GB, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600  << not sure how this will perform
  • Desktop Q6600 @ 3240GHz with 8GB, NVidia 8800GT (512MB) << will run very fine
  • Desktop P4 HT @3Ghz with 1GB, NVidia 7600 << did ran Supcom up to 3 players OK
  • Desktop P3 @1Ghz with 512GB, ATI 9600 << will probably fail to run it properly

Didn't tell my sons (11 and 6) that i'm getting a new game, but they like Supcom, Warcraft 3 and other RTS games...

I'll try it on my current laptop, which has a Core 2 Duo running at 2.6 GHz and an nvidia quadro FX 570M, which is a pretty oddball card, so that's good. I'll also get my desktop back soon, and that has a Core 2 Duo at 3.0 GHz and an 8800GT. Also have a laptop with an ATI processor running at 1.9 GHz (it's the newest laptop athlon variant) and a 6 series laptop card that may or may not play demigod. Time will tell for that one.

I'm lucky, I just got to college, and the highest I've had my download speed was about 7 MB/s, so I have the luxury of not caring. Much more important is the question of when the download will start.

An application called "Belarc" is probably the best in regards to providing your system setup.

Oh, just remembered to ask this. When the beta goes off, will we be sent our serial keys to puch in by hand, or if we have an impulse account will it automatically have demigod registered to it?

If you already have an account under the same email as you ordered with, it should link up automatically as soon as it is processed. If you don't, then you may need to do it manually or have support merge accounts, so it's best to have everything in order ahead of time.

Excellent! Thanks, I've already checked my account and all is well. Can't wait till the beta. :congrat:
