In what I can only describe as a deplorable action on the part of an employer, trucking company Sid Wainer & Son fired truck driver John Acheson. Not for being a bad driver, not for being a bad employee, but rather for being a good, decent, responsible citizen and helping the NYPD make five, count em folks, five arrests.

A trucker who helped the NYPD make five arrests has been canned - for being a good citizen on company time.

On Aug. 4, John Acheson saw a BMW stop near a strip club and two passengers get out and shoot a 22-year-old man dead.

He jotted down the license number, and that helped the cops track down four suspects.

A detective called Acheson's employer, Massachusetts-based Sid Wainer & Son, to explain why he was delayed. Yet Acheson said that when he got to work, his boss told him: "I don't know who you think you are. Maybe you think you're a cowboy."

Then, last Tuesday, Acheson said, he was driving in Harlem when he saw a woman hit a livery driver with a hammer before running away. Acheson called 911, chased the woman into an alley, and helped cops arrest her

The next day, "my boss said, 'John, I gotta let you go. You don't know how to mind your own business,' " Acheson said.

His boss did not return calls for comment.

I certainly hope this immoral and despicable company goes out of business soon. I also hope that drvier sues them for everything I have.
